Flushed Something Accidentally Down the Toilet? Here’s What You Can Do

disclosure

You’re doing your business on the toilet and you accidentally flushed something that shouldn’t have been flushed. So now, what do you do? This guide will help you understand what you can do if you accidentally flush something down the toilet.

How to Retrieve Something You Flushed Down by Mistake?

First of all, don’t panic. You can try a few things before you call in plumbing repair services.

Use a Plunger

To use a plunger, first find an old plastic bag and cut it into two pieces. Place one piece around the end of the plunger, and then place the other piece of plastic bag over the other end of the plunger to create a seal around the handle. You should now have a bag around both ends of your plunger.

Next, place some water in your toilet bowl and then position yourself over it so that you can plunge downwards towards the bottom of your toilet bowl. Once you plunge downwards, you will create suction which will pull whatever has been flushed down and back up into your toilet bowl where you can easily retrieve it!

Use a Bent Wire Hanger

Using a bent wire hanger, you can easily remove objects from your toilet and keep them from ending up in a landfill. First, bend one end of the wire hanger into a hook shape, and then stick it into your toilet drain. Once you have it in position, pull up on the object and slowly guide it out of the toilet using the bent wire hanger as leverage.

Once you’ve removed an object from your toilet using this method, clean up any water or sewage that might have gotten on the floor first so that no one slips on it later!

Call in Professionals

If your child has accidentally flushed a toy down the toilet or your pull chain is stuck, call in professionals if you can’t do it independently. Most plumbing professionals are trained in all aspects of plumbing, including unclogging toilets and drains, so they’ll be able to get whatever is stuck out in no time.

What Happens if Your Toilet is Clogged Due to Something You Flushed Down?

When something is flushed down the drain, it can cause a blockage in your toilet that prevents water from flowing through the pipes properly. This can lead to overflow problems or even a complete stoppage of water flow into the bowl itself!

This can be extremely hazardous if left untreated for too long since it could lead to severe damage or even structural failure of your building’s plumbing system. You should contact a professional plumber immediately if you notice any signs of a clog in your house’s plumbing system so they can come out and take care of it as soon as possible!

Also, you should be careful of what you flush down the toilet. Sometimes, something as harmless as dental floss can cause a clog.

Conclusion

Try these tips when you’re in a jam after accidentally flushing something down the toilet. It may help you retrieve your item faster. However, if none of these tips work, call in a professional plumber. Remember, accidents do happen! Rather than panicking, stay calm and rely on professional help whenever possible.
