This past holiday weekend was quite a busy one for us. In addition to honoring the Memorial Day holiday, we had a plethora of birthdays to celebrate and did so in style. As if that didn’t tire us out enough, the end of the month, now, and dates well into June are looking to be just as fun-filled and busy. For the moment, however, we are taking things one day at a time. And, first up, is a rather exciting little event that we have planned in honor of the Frito-Lay brand and Skylanders.
You see, the two brands partnered up on an incredibly fun contest – Choose and Name a New Hero – back in February that gave fans a unique opportunity to name a new Skylanders character. The new hero will appear in an upcoming Skylanders game that is slated for release in the fall. With three new character designs to choose from, fans could opt for which one they’d like to see in the new game installment and subsequently name them. My kids and I actually tried our own hand at naming one of the characters but, unfortunately, our name suggestion was not chosen as one of the final three from the near twenty thousand name suggestions. For those that did make the cut however, well, their fate now lies in your hands. As we embark on the next phase of this particular contest, the ultimate decision of which new character and name choice will make it into the new Skylanders game is up to you – the fans!
Meet “High Five,” “Flip Wreck,” and “Bat Spin.”
“High Five” submitted by Phylicia Nakamoto from Elk Grove, California, is the fifth son of the Royal High Flying Dragonflies. Famous for his great speed, this hero can fly higher and faster than any other dragonfly in Skylanders.
“Flip Wreck,” submitted by Noel Foster from Clearwater, Florida, is imagined as half-dolphin and half-shipwreck, unlike any Skylanders the world has ever seen.
“Bat Spin” submitted by Kimberly Josey from Charlotte, North Carolina, is a witch tasked with saving the underworld from trolls to prove worthy of joining the Skylanders heroes.
From now through June 13th, fans thirteen years and older can head over to the Frito-Lay Skylanders contest page to vote for your favorite and help to decide the ultimate hero of heroes. The winning character and name will appear on new packaging and in the Skylanders Trap Team™ video game scheduled to be out this October.
As if naming a brand new character for an award-winning game franchise wasn’t enough, the finalist receiving the most eligible votes will also receive a $100,000 scholarship!
And, with that, there must be celebration!
That is where I come in.
To help kick things into high gear and get the masses excited about this contest, voting for and choosing a name, and helping to award a bright young mind with the gift of an incredible future, I too have partnered with Frito-Lay and Skylanders to host a spectacularly fun gaming party. The kids and their friends will surely have a blast playing with their own favorite Skylanders characters, both, on and off screen. The adults can mingle and reminisce about the good ol’ days and our own experience with everyone’s favorite little purple dragon – Spyro! And, yes, we will all be voting for the new Skylanders character options while enjoying plenty of tasty treats from none other than Frito-Lay! What’s not to love?
