Having just moved into a new home, our “office” has become the collection area for all things that still need to be unpacked. So far, we’ve gone through the bedrooms and main living areas in the house to get them in tip top shape for, well, day to day life. Somehow, when cleaning the more frequented rooms of the house, all of our “junk” and items that we haven’t yet found a place for managed to make their way into our office area. Of course, this has now just created a massive organizational nightmare and, more often than not, we choose to close the door and ignore it rather than attempt to set forth on the daunting task that lies behind the door. That being said, I kind of shudder at the thought of it all just sitting there… waiting to be organized.
See, I am normally the girl that has everything ridiculously organized and always in its place. Not necessarily for need of having it that way but, rather, for ease. Case in point – I can no longer count the number of times I’ve been teased over the fact that I have our movie collection alphabetized. But I shake that off because if you ask me where a particular flick is, I bet you that I could find it in less than five seconds flat! The play room, I’ll admit that taking my organizing quirks into the chaotic mess of toys may be a bit more than I bargained for but the kids’ library just looks so adorable when neatly grouped by color and, yes, alphabetized too. Considering my typical organizational habits, you would think that our “office” would be the neatest room in our house. Wrong! Unfortunately, I just haven’t worked up the effort to even begin tackling that mountain of insanity… until now.
I was recently given the opportunity to test out a pretty neat product – a shredder! Now, I’m sure that some of you may be thinking that I’m nuts here but, really, hear me out. We’ve had our fair share of shredders in the past but this particular one definitely takes the cake. Fellowes sent me their Powershred 63Cb Cross-Cut Shredder to help get us started on the path toward reaching our organizational goals.
Having finally gotten our hands on a more than decent shredder, I set aside a nice hunk of time for us to finally go through all of the massive piles we’ve collected. Previously, this is a task that would take us days on end due to cheap shredders, their short run times, jamming, small containers, inconvenient emptying process, and sometimes breaking down completely. The Fellowes Powershred 63Cb Cross-Cut Shredder, however, greatly surpasses our previous models with its wonderful list of features and updated capabilities:
- Jam Blocker block jams before they start
- Shreds 10 sheets per pass into 5/32 x 2” cross-cut particles (Security Level P-3)
- Shreds for up to 8 minutes before a 20-minute cool down period is needed
- Energy Savings System provides optimal energy efficiency 100% of the time – in use and out of use
- 5-gallon pull-out bin
- SafeSense Technology stops shredding when hands touch the paper opening
That last one, the SafeSense Technology, is hugely beneficial in our home. More often than not, our cleaning and organizing tasks tend to take place after the little ones go to bed. However, Mommy and Daddy need sleep too so these tasks have a tendency to spill over into the following day. Playing with “sharp, no-no” items during the kids’ waking hours isn’t exactly ideal because it leads to curious little ones which, in turn, leads to “do it while Mommy isn’t looking” scenarios. Prior to receiving our new Fellowes shredder, we’d usually leave the basket half of the old shredders behind while we safely stored the cutting half out of the kids’ reach. Doing so unfortunately led to a trail of paper mess scattered throughout the house. Thankfully, with the Fellowes Powershred 63Cb Cross-Cut Shredder, I no longer have to hide anything. The SafeSense Technology feature allows me the peace of mind to leave it properly set up knowing that if curious little hands do happen to come across it, no harm will be done.
In addition to its finger and little kid hand saving SafeSense Technology, the Fellowes Powershred 63Cb Cross-Cut Shredder is amazingly easy to use. The benefits of having a shredder that has the capability of devouring multiple sheets of paper for an extended period of time are certainly a great and welcomed upgrade in our home. Emptying the handy pull-out bin is a breeze and, of course, the Energy Savings System is a huge added bonus when those bills continue to come in.
Through the combined innovative technologies put to use by the Fellowes shredders, organizing my home has been much easier and safer. And that is a huge plus for all of us do-it-all parents out there. No one wants to be stuck cleaning and organizing but, with great products from Fellowes, it is a breeze and we can quickly get back to the finer things in life… like enjoying the cleanliness!

I am thrilled to be able to say that since receiving our new Fellowes Powershred 63Cb Cross-Cut Shredder, our junk room “office” has made the lovely transition into a full time office/guest room. There is no longer a need for me to close the door and pretend that a mess doesn’t exist because, now, there truly is no mess. I am not sure how we ever managed organizing at all without this shredder but I am certainly glad that we now have it. Our new home is finally starting to come together and, now, I can officially say that it is clutter and chaos free thanks to Fellowes and their Powershred 63Cb Cross-Cut Shredder!
To help you get started on your own organizational venture, here are a few of my best tips for the task:
- Everything in its place!
This one is easy. Find, determine, and set the best and permanent place for everything. When you use it, simply put it back where you found it. It sounds (and is) simple enough but it’s often the littlest things that we seem to forget so easily. - Stop procrastinating!
Done using something? Put it away now! Don’t wait until later. Get it done right away so that your “do it later” task list doesn’t grow on you. - Start small!
There’s no need to go on a cleaning and organizing binge all at once. Taking on one task at a time and getting things done little by little will help you get things done properly. Don’t rush it. I promise you, it’s not going anywhere. - Free yourself!
Do you really need everything? Change your collecting habits and only keep the necessary. That stock pile of childhood stuffed animals in the basement is only taking up space… and collecting dust. If you don’t need it, get rid of it. - Routine!
Get yourself in the routine of getting and keeping yourself, your family, and your home organized. Once this becomes habit, you will surely love the benefits of living an organized life.

I totally need a shredder. This isn’t a bad price, either! Thanks for sharing.
I have a Fellowes shredder though I admit mine is a few years old… I still love it! This model looks like it is a workhorse!
My husband and I had a habit of killing shredders. They would last like 2 months then die. Until we bought a Fellows. I think it’s easily been 5 years and it is still going strong. My FIRST choice from now on!
