Though I love my children dearly, I have to admit that in some ways I am glad they are all grown up. I will never forget the massive stains on our carpets, after one of them spilled something {say grape juice} that is incredibly hard to remove. I don’t miss dirt ground deep in the carpet either. There are a few other things I don’t miss about having little ones, but I digress.
We recently had to replace our carpets downstairs with hardwood floors, as now I have to worry about the cats making messes. We still have carpeting upstairs, but at least the messes are hidden from any visitors that might venture into our house. Before installing the wood floors, we had a light brown carpet that showed everything. Then of course there was the “path of dirt” – a high traffic area that went from the front door, down the hall, to our family room, and to the garage. This was always a big source of frustration for me, as it was a pain to get it clean and keep it that way. Everyone seemed to track in dirt from the yard, oil from the garage, and just “gunk” in general.
Although I have never tried ChemDry carpet cleaning, I am very tempted to try it upstairs. Even though we don’t have an official high traffic strip upstairs, as we did downstairs, believe me, there are still plenty of stains and spots and need to be cleaned. I have seen the carpet cleaners at the store for rent, but it just sounds like a lot of work to me. I would rather have a professional come and do it for me 🙂 In my old age, getting down on my hands and knees just doesn’t sound appealing somehow (and besides, who is to say I would ever get back up?).
Until we are able to redo the upstairs with flooring, I will just deal with my carpeting. I don’t have to deal with stains though, as I will shortly be calling a cleaner to come and take care of the unsightly areas for me. Since we have house guests coming later this summer, I am actually excited to have this done, and have my carpets look pretty once again.
Do you clean your own carpets or hire someone to do it for you?

We usually clean our own carpets. It’s not difficult for us, because we only have carpet in our Living Room. We have wooden floors and tile everywhere else. When we do clean the Living Room carpet, we rent the machine from the Grocery Store. They do work well, but the cleaning solution that you have to buy to use with it can be pricey.

I rent a machine and put some muscle into it.
