Grocery prices are skyrocketing faster than ever before. In fact, in previous years grocery prices increased by just 2%, but between 2021 and 2022 they increased by a whopping 11%! Lidl is one grocery store helping to keep groceries affordable for families by offering lower priced items and with the help of the My Lidl App. How does Lidl Rewards work? Keep reading to find out top 5 tips to save money.
How Does Lidl Rewards Work?
Here’s how Lidl rewards works: The My Lidl App works by tracking how much you spend each month and rewarding you with additional sales and coupons that are available to members only.
Downloading the My Lidl App and creating a free account means you’re now a Lidl rewards member with access to exclusive deals.
Each time you checkout and use the app, your purchase amount gets recorded. When you spend a certain amount within the month, you receive all kinds of rewards and discounts.
Is it worth getting the Lidl App?
Definitely! The Lidl App rewards you with $5 off $30 just for signing up! This means you’ll be saving an additional $5 after all of your other sales and discounts have been calculated. This is called the $5 off $30 Welcome Gift.
You can only redeem this one time, but this alone makes downloading the My Lidl App well worth it. *Note: It is not redeemable on alcohol.
After that, scan the QR code in your app every time you shop to continue to earn new rewards and coupons month after month.
How to save the most money at Lidl
You’ll save the most money at Lidl by knowing what’s available to you as an exclusive member. Find out what sales are on this week by looking at the sale flyer in your app or grabbing the sale paper or leaflet as you enter the store. (See Tip #2)
Check out their members only deals by taking note of the app icon next to each item.
There are awesome sales throughout the store, but you will need the My Lidl App to receive that exclusive sale price.
Your exclusive discounts will be applied automatically at checkout! (See tip #3)
Are Lidl groceries cheaper?
Lidl groceries are cheaper on average and the company talks about something called The Lidl Effect.
The Lidl Effect is what happens to grocery prices when a Lidl store opens in your neighborhood. In order to compete with Lidl, surrounding grocery stores will tend to drop their prices or offer more sales just to keep up with Lidl.
Groceries at Lidl tend to be between $1 – $3 cheaper than other grocery stores, while carrying the exact same brands and items.
Lidl is a hugely popular German grocery store. It is pronounced (Lee-dle) here in America. No, it is not owned by the same people as Aldi and has nothing to do with the family who owns Aldi.
Is Lidl Better Than Aldi?
Aldi and Lidl are both known for their low prices, however Lidl stores offer more of a variety of food and goods. One feature Lidl has that Aldi cannot compete with is the German bakery.
Lidl’s German Sourdough and Rosemary bread are a favorite of Lidl customers. Lidl bakes their goods fresh daily and several times per day.
This means that the croissants on display in the evening are not the same ones baked at opening time in the morning.
Lidl will continue to bake their goods as needed throughout the day.
5 Easy Tips To Save Money with Lidl Rewards
- Scan Your QR Code Every Time
- Look in the Lidl App for Member Only Deals
- Make Sure All Boxes Are Checked
- Shop on Wednesdays
- Keep Your Receipts
1. Scan Your QR Code Every Time
One of the biggest mistakes people make at Lidl is not scanning their QR code every single time they checkout. Their belief is that they don’t have any items on sale in their cart that require the Lidl App at checkout. Unfortunately that’s not how the app works.
You may have rewards that are NOT available to others because they have not unlocked that tier of rewards, so make sure you are scanning that app no matter what you buy.
For example, you have unlocked 25% off on baked goods but it’s only available to YOU from your “Frequent Shopper Reward”. Other shoppers do not have this reward available to them because you’ve earned it.
If you didn’t know you earned this reward, but still scanned your QR code, then it would be applied automatically. The cashier will let you know that you saved 25% on your baked goods.
Don’t be surprised if other customers become jealous or ask how they can get that deal too.
2. Look in the Lidl App for Member Only Deals
Your My Lidl App has everything you need to save big at checkout. The Lidl app has the sale paper, recipes, exclusive rewards, and displays how close you are to unlocking new rewards.
Be sure to skim the sale circular in your app or in store so that you know what’s on exclusive sale and plan your meals and snacks around those items.
Many people are unaware of the sales and neglect to purchase strawberries or steaks on the days they are actually on sale. Then, they purchase the items at full price, meanwhile they were on sale the previous week or will be on sale the next day. Don’t let this be you! Know exactly how does Lidl rewards work before you checkout.
3. Make Sure All Boxes Are Checked
In your app, you can check and uncheck the rewards you want applied to your purchases. Do yourself a favor and never turn off rewards. Leave each box checked at all times. This way you’ll get the deals even if you don’t know about them.
4. Shop on Wednesday
Lidl discounts their older items on Tuesdays and rolls out new sale items and new merchandise on Wednesday. This means that products you’ve been eying are more likely to be on sale and new items are likely to be freshly stocked every Wednesday.
Don’t wait on the household items you want for your home and garden! The amazingly priced goods tend to fly off the shelves within days and you could miss out.
5. Keep Your Receipts
Lidl has a generous return policy but if you want a full refund, be sure to keep your receipts.
Sometimes items will go on sale or drop from the Lidl inventory before your refund date expires.
You can still get a refund on these items only if you have your receipt and can prove how much you paid to the cashier.
Bonus Tip! (The “Lidl Love It Guarantee”)
Speaking of returns, did you know about the “Lidl Love It Guarantee”?
Items that display the Lidl heart on the back of the packaging means that if you don’t love the product for any reason, Lidl will replace the item and refund your money.
