Once a month. That is how many times I would get a mouth ulcer so painful, that I would just scream and avoid food at all costs. The problem is that I could not figure out what was causing me to get these on a reoccurring basis (I was desperate for help!). If you have ever had one all you want to do is get rid of if as fast as you can! It took me DECADES (not kidding) to figure out the best method for pain relief, and also how to prevent mouth ulcers from even happening in the first place. So, today I am sharing how I healed my mouth ulcers with you, so that hopefully no one has to experience them ever again.
This post will answer the following questions:
- What causes mouth ulcers?
- What helps relieve pain from mouth ulcers?
- How long does it take to heal a mouth ulcer?
- How do you heal mouth ulcers?
- Can you prevent mouth ulcers?
What causes mouth ulcers?
I have read so many articles on this subject, and there are many reasons someone can get them. One of them is stress or anxiousness. another is hormones and you can also just get them from biting your lip or cheek. I was looking into all of these reasons and also another topic I heard about was the oral microbiome, similar to our gut microbiome. As with many health conditions, each person can have a different reason for getting mouth ulcers. I found my reason, which will be explained later in this post. Just make sure you read about each item and ask your doctor for advice as well.
What helps relieve pain from mouth ulcers?
Oh man, I have tried EVERYTHING. I would do warm salt water rinses, baking soda paste, this mouth gel goop, plus just regular pain medicine. All of these will provide temporary relief so if you are in desperate need, they all do work. They relief just does not last long at all, which is super frustrating. The one that works the best for me is forming a paste from baking soda and water and applying that directly to the ulcer. You need to be brave though, its extremely painful until it go numb.
How long does it take to heal from a mouth ulcer?
For me, it depends. I have had one last for three weeks. You read that right, THREE WEEKS. It makes you not want to eat, puts you in a bad mood and can even disrupt your sleep if its on the side of your mouth you sleep on. A tiny little ulcer can disrupt your whole life. I got so sick of them!! Plus the fact that there was no medicine that would help me heal or prevent them from coming back.
How do I heal my mouth ulcers?
I was actually shocked when I figured this out. After numerous applications, medicines, natural remedies, etc. It ended up being something that I do everyday that was causing my ulcers to form. It was a product I used morning and night….it was my toothpaste. There was an ingredient in the toothpaste I had been using that caused a reaction in my mouth once per month. I figured this out after listening to a popular podcast, BulletProof Radio and they covered the oral microbiome and also tooth powder. Have you ever heard of toothpowder? Me either.
Listen to that podcast because the owner goes over an incredible story about this product and why it got invented in the first place. I decided to try it out after learning more about it. Its called, Primal Life Organics. I started using it January 2021 and here we are in September 2021 and I have not had any ulcers AT ALL! Do you understand? They are gone. Its life-changing! No more pain, discomfort, inability to eat or talk. Its amazing!!! I cannot guarantee this will work for you, but it was a simple fix for me that I had to share.
Can you prevent mouth ulcers?
Besides figuring out my toothpaste was causing me problems. I still have the fear of getting ulcers. In fact, I still bite my lip when eating sometimes so I take preventive measures to make sure nothing forms from it. I do a baking soda gargle and swish for two days following a bite from eating and it seems to be working! Again, not saying this will work for everyone but its working for me so if you are desperate as I once was, feel free to try and also ask your Doctor for advice!
In summary, mouth ulcers are the worst! I hope this solution works for you so that you can be pain free as well!
