Choose Signature Fall Pieces

It is easier than you think to put a fall baby outfit together. Begin with some signature seasonal basics, like a one-piece bodysuit or a top and bottoms set. Bodysuits are a favorite among new parents because they make it easy to dress and change your child. Pair short sleeve and long sleeve tops with cute leggings, comfortable sweatpants or stylish joggers sets.

Create an effortless first layer with one or two fall-inspired shades. Burnt orange, rusty red and forest green are all excellent choices for both baby boys and baby girls. Other popular hues include indigo, brown and golden yellow.

Whether you are shopping online or in stores, unisex baby clothes collections make it easy to dress your infant in autumn. Select from popular seasonal colors like grey, taupe and black. Each of these selections look wonderful on infant boys and girls and can be accessorized with a variety of fall prints and patterns. Many unisex layers also come in convenient multipacks.

Layer Clothing on Top

No matter where you and your family live, the fall season may offer a variety of weather and temperatures. For this reason, new parents should have a few different layers of baby clothing in their backpack or diaper bag. Check the forecast before you head outdoors. For cooler weather, you can layer a newborn jacket, a cozy sweater or a hoodie on top of a bodysuit or festive top and bottoms set. When it is cold or when night falls, some parents may need to carry a blanket in their vehicle. This will help your baby to snuggle up and sleep in their carseat.

According to Healthychildren.org, large, puffy infant jackets are dangerous in the car because they can cause your baby to overheat. When a blanket or quilt is not available, drape a baby coat over your child instead. When the temperatures rise, your baby can shed the layers and enjoy the sun. Lighter outfits like short sleeve tops with pants are a great solution to help to keep baby from feeling too warm.

For parents in locations where the weather changes frequently, consider keeping extra baby clothes in your car or your bag. When it is time to shop for trendy outer layers, enliven your fall basics with animal prints like bears, foxes or owls. Other popular choices for autumn include fall leaf patterns, checkered prints and colorful stripes. Cotton shirts made to look like flannel will help to wick moisture while keeping your baby boy comfortable and stylish. Cardigans and vests will accentuate any baby girl’s outfit.

Select From Autumnal Accessories

Now that you have a couple of cozy layers for your baby, it is time to accessorize their outfit with a few must-haves for fall. Cozy socks and booties are stylish and come in a variety of colors. They will also help to keep your child’s feet warm both indoors and outdoors. Along with soft shoes, there are caps and headbands in many shades and prints. Discover fall-inspired mittens, bibs and blankets to help complete your baby’s look.

To finish the perfect outfit for your baby, make sure that their hair accessories, shoes and hats come in a color or print that matches the layers of their clothing. Stick with one pattern or fall color scheme. Some ideas include the shades of fall leaves, neutral colors for autumn or fun autumnal stripes.

Take Care When Layering at Night

Every parent wants their baby to stay warm and cozy at night, but take caution when layering them during fall. Similar to the risks of overheating on a sunny day or in the car, babies can overheat when their pajamas are too warm for the season. If possible, keep your indoor temperature comfortable and mild so you do not have to put too many layers on your baby at night. Pediatricians say the ideal indoor temperature for infants is between 68 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit.

Footed pajamas, a top and bottoms set with a matching swaddle blanket or a long sleeve bodysuit with sweatpants and socks are some of the outfits that can help to keep your baby comfortable when sleeping and napping in autumn. If you are unsure about what your child should wear, think about what you like to sleep in at night. Modify your infant’s outfit so it is similar to what keeps you warm. Check their skin temperature during changes and feedings. If your child is waking up more often than usual, you may need to adjust the layers on their night time outfit.
