Some days, and I think we all go through this, we find ourselves getting down on life. We think of things we do not have, things we cannot do, and places we cannot go. We complain, or even just think to ourselves, “if only I had more money”, “I hate my house”, or any other number of things. We all have our daily frustrations and letdowns.
Sometimes I catch myself doing this and I have to stop and remind myself that I am lucky in so many ways. I have a roof over my head, I have food on the table, a family that loves me unconditionally, and I have my health. My children were born healthy and have remained healthy, my Dad is still here to enjoy his grandchildren and life is actually pretty wonderful. My whole family is so blessed, and it hurts to think how often we take these things for granted. There are families struggling financially, crying for ailing family members or dealing with other tragedies. There are those Haiti, who have just had their lives turned upside down with the most devastating earthquake. Many have no food, no homes, and no longer have their family members that they loved so much.
When I hear this song by Kenny Chesney, it brings me to tears and it reminds me how very lucky I am. The hurdles that I have to face can be overcome, although it may take time. If we are lucky enough to not be terminally ill, lucky enough to have the finer things in life – or even the simple things, we are truly blessed. The next time I am feeling down on life, I am going to think of these words. This song is hauntingly beautiful.
