As many of you know, we moved into our very first house late last year. What many of you may not know, however, is how old the house is. While a brand new build would’ve been rather perfect, we ended up falling in love with an older home and the land that surrounded it. Unfortunately, the only downside to having an older home is the seemingly endless amount of updates and DIY-type projects that are required to make it, well, new again. After going through and painting absolutely everything and coming across an unfixed termite area that left us with no other option than to tear apart our dining room a few days prior to a hosting a family get together, I was already over it. After every long day working on one thing or another, eventually, night would fall only to shine a light on yet another problem. Actually, the problem was the lack of shining lights. You see, there were only three light fixtures in the entire two-story house; one in each bathroom and one in the living room. Okay, scratch that, the dining room did have a horribly old (and hideous!) hanging light fixture but we’ve since replaced that. The rest of our house, however, was pitch black as soon as the sun went down. When we moved in, we came from a newly renovated rental that had ceiling fans and lights in every room and, of course, that translated into us having nothing. The previous owner did leave one broken lamp behind that we were able to rig up and use in our master bedroom but, aside from that, I had resulted to walking around our house with a flashlight or my cell phone after nightfall.
Now I am sure that I can guess what many of you are thinking – why didn’t you just go buy a lamp? As simple as that mentality may be, for me, it was so much more than that. I didn’t want just a lamp. I didn’t want to spend money on a cheap lamp that I didn’t like to begin with. After all, this was our first house. I wanted it to represent us. I wanted every product, every piece of décor, every fixture, to be ours, our style. I searched high and low, I scoured the internet, I subscribed to a handful of home and style magazines, I tore out pages, printed out Pinterest ideas, the works. I looked for everything from décor items and new furniture to kitchen accessories and, yes, even our much needed lights.
One day, there is was; staring at me from the pages of a magazine. It was a company that I had never heard of before. And their products? Ah! To die for! I immediately pulled out my computer and searched for their website. It was then that I fell in love with this company and knew exactly what products I wanted most.
The company in question?
It was none other than I.O. Metro.

After looking through their vast collection of gorgeous pieces, I finally decided on the I.O. Metro Kensington Lamp.

If you like to use more traditional home décor, the Kensington Lamp is the perfect lighting fixture for you. The Kensington’s base is a beautiful faux, hand-rubbed textured bronze, which contrasts with the natural burlap shade.

His choice – the office.

My choice – the bedroom.

The current solution – both.
