Your Promise is Our Promise, Johnson’s Baby New Product Line and #PromiseToBaby

Johnson's Baby, Our Promise

We mothers are fierce creatures. For the majority of us, the moment we find out that we’re expecting, our life suddenly takes a wild turn toward being all about baby. We skip out on caffeine, unhealthy foods, and the glasses of wine with dinner. We do our best to get a good amount of exercise, to get a good amount of rest, to keep ourselves healthy and we promise keep baby healthy. We drive our cars slower, we pay more attention, we avoid “dangerous” things like theme park rides, we protect our bodies and promise to protect baby. Once the day comes that we are finally able to welcome our newest bundle of joy into the world, we only become more protective. We make new promises.

Between car seat safety when leaving the hospital to providing baby with the best food possible for each stage of life, every single day is lived with a promise to do right by our children. Parenting can be difficult and, despite our trying, we cannot protect our children from everything on our own. We entrust others to help us in that quest. After all, it takes a village to raise a child, right? We search for products that mesh well with our hopes for our children; healthy foods for a healthy lifestyle, organic materials for those comfy clothes and blankets. One thing that is often overlooked, however, is bath time. As simple as it may seem, unfortunately not all soaps and shampoos are the same. There are better options in terms of being healthier and safer for, both, you and baby. Don’t let your promises to baby fall short here.

I remember when our oldest was born and the nurse gave him his very first bath. He cried but she made a promise to me… that he’d be just fine. Perfect. In that moment, I found a bit of comfort. There was solace in the realization that he’d be a-okay and so would I. Our nurse continued to gently wash him with Johnson’s Baby bath products and handed him back to me for some snuggles. It was then that I promised him to be the best mom that I can be, always.

Johnson’s Baby has been my go-to baby product for as far back as I can remember. I can vividly picture it in my childhood bathtub when I was younger. I continued using the lotion and oil for myself well into my teens. Every child I’ve ever babysat had a bathroom stocked with these products. Family, friends, neighbors, even strangers, everyone had Johnson’s Baby in one form or another. When it came to my own children, there was no other choice. I trusted the products for use on my sweet babies to whom I promised the world to. Thankfully, Johnson’s Baby is no stranger to promises either.

Over the years, word got around that the original formula wasn’t exactly as safe for baby as previously thought. The interwebs blew up with arguments, both, for and against the brand and many parents were at a loss for what to do. Safety concerns were brought up but, with each of us only having one voice many parents felt discouraged when standing up to such a huge company. But, again, we mothers are fierce creatures and with promises to our children on the line we made ourselves heard. Then, something amazing happened – they listened.

After taking parents’ concerns to heart, not only did they listen but they did something about it. They fixed it! With their Your Promise is Our Promise campaign, Johnson’s Baby completely reformulated their products. The difference?

  • Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives have been removed
  • Traces of 1 & 4 dioxane have been reduced in all baby products
  • Removed all parabens

The fact that Johnson’s Baby took the initiative to go forth with reformulating their products shows just how committed they are to our families. And just as we parents make promises to our children, Johnson’s Baby makes a promise to us. They’ve always stood by their products promising that they’re safe for use on even the gentlest new baby skin and, now, that couldn’t be truer.

We are always committed to listen to moms, and although our products have always been safe, we took a stand and changed our formulas to give you peace of mind.

With their Our Promise video, they took inspiration from a Japanese legend. In this legend, the folding of one thousand origami cranes results in a wish being granted and a promise fulfilled. This is an act of love. The inspiration from this legend brought together the entire team of Johnson’s Baby scientists and their own families. They then built and origami stork mobile symbolizing their promise to parents everywhere and the love and care they put into each of the Johnson’s Baby products. The storks were used in the video to represent the delivery of babies and the reformulating of these products was a labor of love.

This massive mobile is not only a beautiful piece of artwork but it serves as a constant reminder of our promises to our children, of their promises to us. It is a wonderful message to parents that the folks over at Johnson’s Baby really do care and, together, we can make that promise to baby – safety and love.

Our products and policies will always evolve to reflect the latest science, new regulations and – just as importantly – your views and concerns.

I don’t know about you, but I am proud to see Johnson’s Baby take this stand. Since my own journey into parenthood began, I’ve made countless promises to my children but the very first one still holds true.

I promise to be the best mother that I can be for each of my kids.

And that, well, that started with Johnson’s Baby.
