A few years ago, when we moved into our new house, the kids begged and pleaded for us to get them a bunk bed for their new bedroom. Unfortunately, because of the way their room was designed, a bunk bed was entirely out of the question. After a while, they finally let go of the idea. Then, not long after that, my in-laws purchased a new RV. Of course, that led to our own reminiscing of our childhood camping trips and when I was young, I spent many summer nights atop a bunk bed in my own grandparents’ RV. After sharing that little tidbit with my own little ones, their talk of bunk beds arose once more.
We’ve taken the boys on a handful of camping trips thus far but, unfortunately for them, Grandmom and Grandpop’s camper does not feature the bunk bed that the kids desire. However, when the entire extended family is in tow, the need for additional sleeping solutions is essential. Although we do not have an RV of our own, we do have a tent and, because of that, we typically come prepared with air mattresses for bed time. Now, as much of a good idea the air mattresses are, space isn’t always on our side. You see, a few air mattresses side-by-side quickly take up much more space than you would realize. When you’re camping, you have to think on your feet and utilize what it accessible to you. While interior floor space may be limited, you can always go up. Depending on what you’re using as a shelter – an RV, a small dome tent, a larger family tent, or even just the great outdoors as is – vertical space is almost always plentiful. As much as full-size bunk beds won’t work within our house, the kids’ incessant bugging for them is actually a genius idea as far as camping is concerned.
Now, I’m sure that you’re all wondering why on Earth I’m here talking about camping adventures despite the fact that school is back in session. While it may typically be considered a summertime outing, the late summer and early fall weather is absolutely perfect for camping in both tents as well as RVs. And now that we’ve figured out a way to not only give the kids their wish of bunk beds but to be able to spend adventurous weekends surrounded by wilderness and family as well, please allow me to introduce you to the wonderful product that made it all possible: the Kid-O-Bunk.

Brought to you by Disc-O-Bed, the Kid-O-Bunk is, to put it simply, absolutely amazing.
Whether you’re hosting a sleepover or traveling to a vacation destination, the kids will always get a comfortable night’s sleep with Kid-O-Bunk by Disc-O-Bed. Kid-O-Bunk’s tool-free, patented lock-in disc system makes assembly so easy – even your kids can help! With no mid beam, the hygienic, machine-washable polyester sleeping deck conforms to the child’s body shape for contoured comfort, and is tough to prevent ripping or tearing. When you’re done, easily pack the Kid-O-Bunk into its own zippered carrying bag that holds all parts and allows for easy transportation and quick storage.
Is it a bunk? Is it a bench? Is it a single cot? It’s ALL three!

Despite only having our Kid-O-Bunk for a short time, we’ve already gotten plenty of use out of it. It has been a bench in the kids’ play room, a pair of cots to enjoy a family movie night in the living room, and to satisfy the boys’ dream of having a bunk bed it has been used as exactly that on a recent camping adventure. In all three instances, the kids loved it and it was a fabulous addition to the space.
Before we get into the nitty gritty of things, just take a look at how truly incredible the Kid-O-Bunk really is…
The fact that it is such a versatile product only adds to its appeal. I can easily envision at least one hundred different uses for the Kid-O-Bunk and that’d just be within the time that it takes me to write out this sentence to you. Whether you’re in need of a nap space for your child’s daycare class, looking for an on-the-go sleep space solution, hoping to find a perfect seating space for a play area or child’s bedroom, need a temporary bed for sleepovers, need seating space for a few kids on the sidelines of sporting events, or even just want to have the only bunk bed that can quite literally go anywhere and everywhere, the Kid-O-Bunk is for you. It is essentially the children’s version of a baby’s pack-n-play. It’s no secret that kids get sleepy from time to time nor is it a secret that they need a space to call their own whether it is for sitting or sleeping. Thanks to the Kid-O-Bunk we now have exactly that.

I’ve already given a few nods toward the versatility of the Kid-O-Bunk but let’s go more in detail about each of the use variations. There are three different ways that you can set up the Kid-O-Bunk; as a stackable bunk bed, as a sitting bench, or as side-by-side cots.

Each setup is fabulous in its own right thus making the Kid-O-Bunk more and more amazing after every use.
Stackable Bunk Bed
As my children’s favorite setup option, the Kid-O-Bunk easily transforms itself into a set of stackable bunks.

Perfectly suiting two children and helping to make use of the vertical space that is available to you (tent camping, RVing, crowded sleepovers, etc.), this is just one of the many forms that the Kid-O-Bunk offers. My boys love the idea of sleeping atop and below one another, each on their own bunks. Not only is it loads of fun but it is convenient and, really, it’s adorable!
Sitting Bench
This particular setup can actually be used in two different ways; as a sitting bench or as a single cot.

We have our own Kid-O-Bunk set up in this form on a daily basis for use as a sitting bench. It is a wonderful addition to the kids’ play room and even their bedroom as a nice place to be able to sit down for play time and story time. In addition to using it as a bench, this formation also allows for it to work wonderfully as a single cot. While the Kid-O-Bunk is most known for its bunk bed formation, not every family needs to use the pair of bunks at all times. When set up as a sitting bench, the Kid-O-Bunk can easily be used as a single cot to comfortably sleep one child.
Side-by-Side Cots
With two boys, setting up the Kid-O-Bunk in the aforementioned bunk bed form can often lead to petty arguments over who gets to sleep on the top bunk. Apparently the top is so much cooler in the eyes of little ones…? Alas, the side-by-side formation is the solution for exactly that.

When set up in the side-by-side option, children have the ability to sleep beside one another while still having their own individual cots. We’ve found that this formation works perfectly for movie nights in the living room, camping out under the stars, or even for the sleepover nights of wanting to sleep alongside your best buddy.
When I was first introduced to Kid-O-Bunk I was weary about its longevity. As many of you know, our children grow up entirely too quickly and, in turn, outgrow many such children’s products equally as fast. Since my boys have, more or less, passed their napping stages, I wasn’t sure how much use we’d get out of the Kid-O-Bunk before they outgrew that as well. Thankfully, after a bit of research, I found that they’ll actually be able to spend many days and nights enjoying this. You see, the Kid-O-Bunk is recommended for elementary-aged children through their years into early middle school and is rated for an extended weight-limit.
The Kid-O-Bunk is manufactured, engineered, and recommended for children ages 7-12 years old with their average height and weight. Each cot is guaranteed to a weight tolerance of 200 lbs. per single cot (400 lbs. per bunk).
The sleep area of the Kid-O-Bunk is a whopping 62” long and can comfortably sleep children up to that height and within the 200 lbs. weight limit. To give you a good idea of just how accommodating it is, if I were a tad bit shorter, I could actually fit on it! Unfortunately for me, the kids have most definitely claimed this one as their own.

I truly cannot say enough great things about the Kid-O-Bunk. In any and all of its three variations, it has been absolutely fantastic. I particularly love the fact that it is an item that you can use regularly whether you need it for sleeping or not. We keep ours in the kids’ playroom in bench form and they use it on daily basis to sit and play with their toys and read story after story. Then, once the weekend comes along, it is ridiculously easy to fold it up, conveniently store it in its travel bag, and pack it up for a wonderful weekend adventure. You can even store your favorite goodies in the adorable side organizers!

Finally, we can ditch the bulky air mattresses and endless nights of uncomfortable sleep on a hard floor and, instead, opt for the easy-to-use and perfect-for-travel Kid-O-Bunk. Currently available in Teal Blue and Lime Green color options, it is sure to not only brighten up the room but to also put that little glimmer of shine in your children’s eyes. After all, who wouldn’t want a fun, portable, bench, cot, AND bunk bed all rolled up into one?! And with a nifty carrying case to boot?!

The real question is when are you getting one?! We can be Kid-O-Bunk pals!
