Make Something Sweet This Fall with Duncan Hines

I love desserts.  I love fall.  What’s better than those? Fall desserts!  I’m always on the lookout for new and delicious desserts I can add to my holiday menu.  That’s why I was so excited to try Duncan Hines’ newest dessert mixes.  My family and I sampled the Red Velvet Decadent  Brownie Mix, the Autumn Velvets Cake Mix, the Decadent Caramel Apple Cupcake Mix, and the Decadent Salted Caramel Brownie Mix.

Mixes
I let my seven year old decide the first dessert to try, and she settled on the Red Velvet Decadent Brownie Mix.  I allowed her to add the ingredients and mix the batter, since the directions were so easy.  With assistance, she then put the brownies into the oven and we had to endure the agonizing wait smelling the brownies while they cooked. Once out of the oven and cooled just enough, we added the cream cheese icing and enjoyed!  Let me just say that these red velvet brownies are so good that my husband, who normally does not go for ANYTHING red velvet, could not get enough of them.  Unfortunately, they were gobbled up so quickly that I didn’t get a picture of our beautiful brownies. We then opted to try the Autumn Velvets Cake Mix.  I’m normally intimidated by cakes, but this cake was a breeze to whip up.  I actually made it in 15 minutes, while wearing my baby!

Making cake
I used the Duncan Hines Creamy Homestyle Cream Cheese frosting to frost the cake and then we enjoyed.  The cake was incredibly moist, and the cream cheese frosting added just enough sweetness without it being over-the-top.  I brought some cake to my mother-in-law to enjoy and she and my father-in-law couldn’t stop raving about it.  I have to say the Duncan Hines Autumn Velvets Cake Mix is definitely on my holiday menu this year.

I next tried my hand at making the Duncan Hines Decadent Caramel Apple Cupcake Mix.  Let me forewarn you, I am not the best at following directions.  With that being said, I did NOT use the recommended butter for my frosting mix, but rather used a vegetable oil spread.  Although I did not get the desired consistency out of my frosting, this cupcake mix with frosting was so delicious, no one knew the difference!

Cupcakes
These cupcakes tasted JUST like a caramel covered apple.  I couldn’t believe how much the flavor resembled my favorite fall treat, there were even apple bits in the cake mix.  These treats I shared with my parents, who I feel will now be demanding the Duncan Hines Decadent Caramel Apple Cupcakes with our Thanksgiving dinner.

Finally, I made the (highly anticipated) Duncan Hines Decadent Salted Caramel Brownie Mix.  The brownies came out incredibly moist and delicious, while the salted caramel sauce added the perfect sweet/salty taste.  My family basically inhaled these brownies so fast, I ended up making another batch the same week!  My seven-year-old, who doesn’t ever go for caramel, said the sauce was her favorite part.
