iSwimband the Wearable Sensor for Aquatic Safety

We’ve spent a lot of our free time at the lake or community swimming pool this summer. Paige LOVES to be in the water. Although she’s taken swim lessons and she’s cautious in the water, I still never take my eyes off of her.  She’s still a kid, so I’ll take any help I can get in the kiddo department.  We tried out a new piece of technology made to ensure the safety of both non-swimmers’ and swimmers’ in and around the water. It’s the iSwimband.

iSwimband
Designed by three fathers driven by a senseless drowning accident in their community, iSwimband is a personal drowning detection system for parents and caregivers. The band is a comfortable, wearable sensor, in the form of a headband or wristband, which alerts your Bluetooth-enabled portable device if the swimmer is submerged beyond a preset time limit, or if a non-swimmer, like a toddler, enters the water at all. iSwimband is the only drowning prevention technology that works for both non-swimmers and swimmers.

iSwimBand is the result of eight years of collaboration with leading aquatic safety professionals and passionate engineers. It is the world’s first practical, affordable, and highly reliable technology to keep your kids truly safe around the water. iSwimBand helps to keep them safe and offers you peace of mind.

The iSwimband comes with a headband, wristband and sensor and iSwimband technology is compatible with Apple devices – iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches. The Android app is on its way.  It’s easy to switch the sensor from headband to wristband.  I like the two different settings, swimmer and non-swimmer.  It really make me feel reassured at the lake.  I’ve caught Paige messing with a floatie at the edge of the dock when I specifically told her to sit in her chair up at the cabin while I was changing into my suit. She wasn’t doing it to be naughty, she honestly thought it wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but I know how things can happen in just a second.   Thankfully I caught her in time and she was wearing a life vest (I read her the riot act, too!).  Should she of been wearing the iSwimband though, I could of had it set to the non-swimmer setting and if she fell in, I would have been notified immediately by the alert warning on my phone.

The iSwimband stays put – whether you are wearing it on your head or wrist. Paige much preferred the wrist band, as she likes wearing goggles – between her thick hair and goggles, she was just overwhelmed.

Of course, the iSwimband doesn’t replace the supervision of an adult, but is an additional layer of protection because drowning is so difficult to detect.  My point is, you can never be too careful. The iSwimband could really be beneficial in some situations.  The iSwimband is sold for $79.99 online.

The iSwimband is just a smart device to have around – especially if you reside at the lake or have a pool any sort water in your backyard.

  1. Hi Sky,
Thank you for your kind review of iSwimband. Please tell your daughter that she can also use the headband as a goggle strap. That would make using iSwimband along with her goggles easy and less intrusive. Hope that helps! Dave Cutler, inventor, iSwimband.com

  2. This is absolutely brilliant! A boy in my community drowned many years ago and it was just so awful for everyone. It’s crazy to think his life could have been saved by something like this!

  3. I think the iSwimband is awesome! Its good that people come up with ideas like this especially when it comes to safety
