Make them stop – plant eating cats.

By now I’m sure you all know that I have three very spoiled indoor kitties.  I love my kitties very much.  In fact, when they are into mischief, I find myself chanting the mantra “I love my cats, I love my cats, I love my cats” {kind of like my husband chants that he loves me, when he is doing something I asked of him that is annoying}.  The reason I have this mantra is to keep me sane when they are doing ridiculous things like waking me up in the morning, scratching at the door when I am using the restroom, yowling for no apparent reason, and running around the house with poofy tails, as something invisible chases them.

Ooooh pretty…

The other thing they like to do is chew on my plants.  Not only is this annoying, but it’s incredibly dangerous.  I have actually removed all of my houseplants and replaced them with artificial plants.  Since many household plants are toxic, I just cannot take the chance of something happening to one of my babies…especially something that could have been easily prevented.

These days, the only “live” foliage you might see in my house are the fresh flowers I receive for my birthday or Valentine’s Day.  I keep them in vases on the kitchen counter {where my cats are not allowed}, and so far they have not tried to eat them.  Or chew on them. Or lick them.  However, if and when the time comes, when they decide they must see what type of goodies are on the counter, I might have to suggest to my husband that instead of fresh flowers, that he buy me artificial flowers.  After all, I could enjoy my flowers all year long that way, and these days artificial arrangements look pretty darned real.

I love my cats, I love my cats, I love my cats…I really do.  I just do not like them eating my plants!

  1. You think cats would instinctively know not to eat poisonious plants. I know they won’t eat spoiled food or so says my husband, when we had a cat he would say, see if the cat will eat it when I’ve wondered if some left over or something was still good.
