It’s amazing how a scent can take you back and bring back memories – at one sniff of Drakar Noir, I’m taken back 20 years. Yeee-ow.

Well, Masik Collegiate Fragrances is a line of school-inspired scents that will bring you back to your college days at first whiff.
CEO (and perfume enthusiast) Katie Masik has always been fascinated by the link between scent, memory, and emotion and wanted to create a line of individualized fragrances celebrating the personal experience of scent. She came up with the idea for Masik Collegiate Fragrances while ruminating on one of her most memorable experience, college.
So, she reached out to colleges, universities and top-notch perfumers to create a line of fragrances inspired by the unique elements of each school including colors, campus style, flowers, trees, traditions, and location. Masik is now mixing original scents for nineteen major universities including Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Mississippi, Florida State, Penn State, and Texas A & M.
I had the chance to try out three of those scents – Virginia Tech and North Carolina in the women’s collection and Kentucky in the men’s collection.
While I didn’t attend these colleges, this is exactly how I imagine they smell. Each one unique but delightful! Take a look at the video below to see how each fragrance is created –
Let’s start with Kentucky. It’s clean, crisp and takes me back to one of my favorite places, Lexington, KY. Oh, how I love it there!

Pay tribute to the Big Blue Nation with the alluring new women’s scent. Invigorating top notes of sparkling citrus open up to a heart of Mirabelle plum’s, Vanilla orchids and Wild Jasmine. A comforting back drop of Sandalwood, Warm Amber and creamy Tonka Beans ensures a long lasting, signature scent.
Next on to Virginia Tech – It’s citrusy and herbal, very earthy.

This fragrance reflects dramatic campus beauty with enchanting accents of Iced Juniper, Lavender, Geranium and fresh herbs. Bright citrus top notes of Valencia orange and Kaffir lime intertwine with a crisp airy breeze. A classics back drop, as rich as the traditions of school, provide longevity and strength with notes of White Amber, Patchouli and Cashmere Woods.
Finally, North Carolina – oh, how that entire state has my heart! It’s charming and Johnny really, really likes it.

UNC for men is a light and crisp fragrance that embodies alluring Carolina Blue in a bottle. The fragrance opens with fresh Sicilian lemon and bergamot. The aromatics extend with lavender and the subtle spice of sensual white pepper. The base notes combine a soft white amber and tonka bean. An irresistible and fresh creation for the proud Carolina man.
Each 1.7oz bottle retails for $39.95.
Although I’m a fan of all three Universities, I bleed red, I’d love to see a University of Nebraska fragrance in the future…please? Regardless, I do love my Masik Collegiate Fragrances!
Don’t take my word for it! New York Knick’s player, Carmelo Anthony, is a fan of the Syracuse Men’s cologne.
Masik Collegiate Fragrances has a couple of fun giveaways on their Facebook page. The big one is an amazing summer trip contest happening on their Facebook page – it includes a free 4-night trip to Turquoise Place Resort, airfare, and dinner for two.
