This year, I am turning the tables on Mother’s Day and, instead of basking in the glory of motherhood and the holiday gifts that coincide, I am thanking the amazing little ones in my life that gifted me with the title of “Mom” and all that it entails. No matter how hard I try, I know that I will never truly be able to get across every thought, every feeling, every ounce of love using words alone but this, well, this is my quick attempt at doing so in honor of the Pampers Thanks, Baby campaign.
Dear Baby Boys,
You are my world. The two of you, each in your own ways, brought an incredible joy to my life that never before existed. Your lives gave me mine. The simplicity of your existence in the chaos of this big, big world gave me meaning. When you were born, I was born… a mother.
Every single thing that I know about motherhood is what you taught me. Growing up, we think that we know it all. We think that we have all of the answers, but we don’t. Life is a constant learning experience and you, you are my greatest lesson. Despite your incessant toddler questioning, I often look at each of you and your sweet faces with just as many questions as I have answers; how did I get so lucky? how are you so incredible? how can I be the best mom for you? how can possibly give you and teach you everything in such a short time? I could go on for days.
To my oldest, my sweet big guy – you are as incredible as they come. You really are, Daddy’s mini-me. Your sweet disposition and happy-go-lucky attitude reminds me that there is kindness in this world. Your constant need to drive me absolutely bonkers with your silly, little boy antics reminds me to smile no matter what because, through thick and thin, you are there. You are always there to cheer me up with tickle fights and loving me to the “moon and back million billion.” You were and are the scariest and greatest gift I could’ve ever received. The world was completely new to you and motherhood, to me but we took it on together. Side by side, you were my right hand man and quite literally so. Attached to my hip, you were mine and I was yours. We carved our own path and colored it beautifully as mother and son. And, now, here we are. It seems like just yesterday we brought you home. I still remember the look on your face when the cat came to greet you. I remember the way you’d play with my hair as you fell asleep. I remember it all and, though it has only been a few short years, it feels like it was all eons ago. But, alas, this journey has been and is an incredible one and I cannot thank you enough for all of it. Daddy and I did not only give you life but you gave me mine. You gave me reason, you gave me purpose, you gave me the most important job I will ever have – being your Mommy.
To our littlest, little guy – oh, where do I begin? You are me to a T. After your brother set the tone, we thought we had parenting down pat when you came along but, boy, did you give us a run for our money. You and me, head to head. My stubborn little competition at all times, you are my own mini-me. We may butt heads quite often but you, too, are a momma’s boy at heart. Much like your brother, you are attached to my hip whenever possible and (here’s a secret) I love every second of it. The silly way that you pick my fingernails as you fall asleep and the way that your laugh goes silent, these are just some of the cute little things that I know I will one day come to miss. You are incredibly smart and are constantly teaching me new things. My tough guy, my daredevil, you remind me to always live for today, to live for the moment. As my mommy instinct kicks in and constantly wants to save you from everything that could possibly do you harm, you push back and remind me to give you space and let you learn from your mistakes. You know that I am here for you whenever needed and it gives me confidence in myself to know that you are confident in me. Life with you is always an adventure and I am most certainly here for the ride.
I never imagined that my life would so quickly become filled to the brim with playing matchbox cars, making mud pies, refereeing playful living room wrestling matches, backyard baseball games, monster trucks, and all things dirty and smelly but the two of you gave me exactly that and so much more. Your spirits, your spunk, your sense of humor, your love, your being, your everything; you made me.
You see, when each of you was born, so was I. And it’s not about just becoming and being a mother, it is about being YOUR mother. My life has become dedicated, completely, to each of you. I am constantly learning more and more about each of you and figuring out the best ways to help each of you grow into the men that you are destined to be. Motherhood, for me, is about recognizing your talents, encouraging you in every task, teaching you to pursue your dreams. For me, my dream has already come true (twice over!) because I have you.
So, thanks, babies.
Thank you for blessing my life with the presence of yours. Thank you for teaching me patience, inspiring me to be carefree, and for showing and showering me with the greatest gift of all – your love.
I love you both more than you could ever imagine – today, tomorrow, and forever.
Love,
Mommy
Now, I bet you’re all wondering what this has to do with Pampers. This Mother’s Day, the Thanks, Baby campaign encourages mothers to do exactly as it says and thank baby for all of the incredibleness that goes hand-in-hand with motherhood. Moms everywhere deserve to be able to enjoy this precious time in their children’s lives because, after all, we all know that times flies oh so quickly with little ones. Every second, every moment is special. The sweet embraces, the silly giggles, their lovable personalities, the fun memories, the new adventures; the love between a mother and child is special.
Unfortunately, however, not all mothers are able to find peace in these moments because simple things like having enough diapers and being able to provide for their little ones can truly be a real financial burden. I cannot imagine how stressful that must be but, knowing that it is a reality for many, I count my lucky stars for each and every moment that I am able to spend with my own little ones without having the interruptive, nagging thoughts of finances or basic provisions on my mind. Pampers believes that all mothers should be able to enjoy their children and rightfully so.
That being said, this Mother’s Day, Pampers has partnered with Feeding America and they’d made a commitment to donate a diaper to a baby in need (up to one million diapers) for every view that the following video gets. So, please, go ahead and watch it. Celebrate that wondrous mom and baby bond that all of us love and, in doing so, help out a mom and baby in need.
