Mental health impacts everyone at one point or another in our lives. Some people it will impact far more than others, and it’s fair to say that some people find it easier to cope than others.

This is not to say that any one person is better or stronger than another, but mental health is a personal journey. You should be doing everything that you can to keep your mental health in the best possible condition, but it’s just not always possible. So, if you’re struggling with mental health we want you to know that this is a safe place, and that we are willing to do what a lot of others are not: we are willing to talk about it.

Understanding You’re Not Alone

First, we need you to understand that you are not alone. It’s true that a lot of people suffer from mental health issues every single day, so there is always someone out there who knows how you are feeling. Even those who don’t struggle as often anymore but have in the past, they know what it’s like.  We understand that you think nobody will be able to understand, and that is in part because it’s a very personal thing to experience, but you are not alone in the world. Even if you don’t believe that people know exactly how you feel, you can believe that they know how it feels to struggle. We all have our demons to face, and we all have our struggles in life, and just because they’re not the exact same as yours, doesn’t mean that people don’t understand.

It’s likely that you have isolated yourself from the people in your life, but you shouldn’t be doing this. All this is going to do is cause you more problems down the line when you feel worse and have nobody to turn to. The people that love you will still love you if you are struggling right now.

Your Kids Can Face Mental Health Problems

As a parent, the thing that you want most in the world is to protect your kids and we know that. But, sometimes there isn’t much that you can do and your kids will face mental health problems. Of course, you can be there, you can be supportive, you can offer them all of the love and acceptance in the world and this is going to be important. However, this is not going to completely sort out the problem, but there are things that might. You can get your children into therapy if this is what they need, or onto one of the other treatment options.

Don’t panic, because doctors will always try to avoid giving medication to younger people. This will only be used as an absolute last resort if nothing else is working. We understand that this is not something that you want to think about, but it’s reality and you have to face it at some point. It’s important to mention this because a lot of parents think that children can’t experience these struggles because they are too young, and while it’s less common, it does happen.

Getting Help Is Important

Getting help is one of the most important things that you can do, no matter what your age, your sex or who you are. Avoiding help is only giving the problem the chance to get worse, and that is not what you need. Help does not always mean having to go into residential treatment though, so if this is what you are afraid of, there is no need to be. However, if you are struggling badly, and you have found yourself with problems such as alcohol or narcotic addiction because you wanted to numb the pain, then the services of Delphi Health Group or someone similar may be needed. You do need to understand though that you are never going to get better if you do not want to. This has to be your choice, and nobody can force you into it.

If you know someone who is struggling right now, then you can encourage them to get help, but you cannot force them. Getting help has got to be a conscious decision because they have had enough of the life they are living right now and want to get better.

Take Mental Health Days

Mental health days are important, no matter what anyone else says. If you are sick, you can take a sick day to get some rest and hopefully feel better soon, so why is this not the same with mental health? If you are feeling low and you’re not up to going to work, then take a mental health day. Go and do something that makes you feel happy, that makes you feel free, and that makes you feel alive. Remind yourself that there are some wonderful things in the world, and that they are fantastic.

Sometimes, all you need is a good mental health day to put things into perspective. It doesn’t matter if it’s laying on the sofa with a pint of ice cream and watching movies, or it’s going out on an adventure, you need to take care of yourself. You know the best way to do this, and you know what you need, so it’s always worth listening to that voice inside you that is telling you that you need a  break. You do not need to be 100% every single day, and do not let anyone else tell you otherwise, ever.

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the things that you need to understand when it comes to mental health. We know that this is a tough topic for some, and it’s just completely uncomfortable for others, but that does not mean that we can avoid talking about it. The longer we keep shrouding this in darkness and pretending it’s not there, the worse the problem is going to get. We don’t need a bigger mental health crisis in the world than we have already got.
