After we had Bugsy, I knew the time would come where we had to get a new baby monitor. You see, The Mister is a worry wart {okay, I am too but let’s just pin it on him} and has gotten used to having a monitor in Luv’s room. He even jokes that he will have one in her room until she moves out. But I need the monitor for when Bugsy is napping. Sound doesn’t carry well down the hallway, past the kitchen, and into the living room. So, I was happy to hear that Motorola would be sending us their MBP26 Video Monitor monitor to check out.[*]
The Motorola MBP26 is a 2.4” color LCD video monitor that you can mount to the wall or stand on a shelf or dresser. It comes with the parent unit and the baby unit. Both are equipped with power supplies, but the parent also has a rechargeable battery and still picks up the camera’s visual up to 520 feet away. I can take it outside to play with Luv in the backyard while Bugsy naps, which is appreciated.
In the past week The Mister and I have gone back and forth, debating which room to use it in. He thinks it should be in Luv’s room. I say it should be where Bugsy naps. We definitely prefer this monitor to our other!
The Mister’s Thoughts:
I like how you can have four cameras hooked up. It’s like a baby security system. The only thing that is missing is the armed guards.
See? I told you he’s a worry wart!
Audio monitor
An assumed feature with a baby monitor perhaps, but one that needs acknowledged just the same. I think the sound quality is great and I love that I have plenty of control with the volume {1-8}.
Alarm
The parent unit is equipped with alarm setting {2, 4, or 6 hours}. The parent unit will beep and the alarm icon with flash when the time is up. I haven’t had to use this feature as I nurse on demand, but I imagine it is handy for babies on a feeding schedule.
Push to talk
Aside from being able to hear our little ones, we can also use the intercom feature and talk to them. Whether it is to give a quick reassurance to Bugsy that I am coming or to remind Luv that she shouldn’t be reading, she should be sleeping, and to close her eyes. *snicker*
Pan
Using the directional feature, I can adjust the camera’s angle remotely to get a better view.
Night vision mode
Wih 8-high-intensity infrared LEDs, this mode makes me feel like we’re on a parental covert ops mission. But it is really handy and I like that I can see what is going on – even at night – without worry of waking them up. The LEDs automatically start and show a crescent moon on the parent unit. I do wish I could manually toggle this. A manual override is always a good option to have, in my opinion!
Multiple cameras
You can connect up to four cameras to the parent unit! With a few clicks, easily hop from camera to camera. This is especially great if you need to view your child from a totally different angle or have more than one child. Even if you want to add a camera, say, in the play room?
Buy:
The MBP26 Video Monitor set retails for $149.99 and you can buy it exclusively on Amazon. Right now, I see it for $129.99! Of course, now The Mister wants a second camera to hook up to our parent receiver so we can donate our old monitor and he can
spy keep a watchful eye on both children. Thankfully, additional MBP26 camera units will be available to purchase on Amazon soon!!

What a clear looking picture on the monitor! I’d love to have this in my grandson’s room so I know what he’s up to during nap time if he isn’t sleeping!
I like that the display is in color. I wish they had monitors when my kids were little. Great shower gift for first time moms.
I had not heard of the MBP26 before, pretty neat. I have some baby monitor researching to do before new baby gets here. Thanks for the review.
My third grandbaby is due in the Fall and this would make a great gift for mom & dad. I love the features too! The alarm and night vision mode would come in very handy with a new baby. It’s also nice that you can talk to your child as well as hear them. Thanks for the review 🙂
I love that you can move this one! Ours is stationary and I can only see one of the kids. This may just be on our to-buy list!
I’ve never had a video monitor for my kids, but have always wanted one! My oldest will destroy his room when he’s in there so it would be nice to keep an eye on him! And the youngest hasn’t moved into his room yet, so it would definitely ease my mind to be able to see him!
I think baby monitor’s is a brillant idea. I wish they were around when my children were young. It would have saved me from a lot of worries.
I never had a monitor with my little ones, but I really love all the technology they have come out with nowadays.
This looks really nice my sister wanted one of these when she had her son she hasnt gotten one yet but maybe for baby number 2
This is so smart! We’re moving Paige upstairs and will need a monitor – definitely going to consider this model!
This would be perfect for my son & daughter in law for my new grandson’s room. I know it would give them peace of mind! Love that it is in color!
I seriously considered a video monitor for my second child, but I ultimately decided to reuse my audio-only one. It was the practical decision. It sure would have been nice though. I can’t count the times I accidentally woke my youngest tiptoeing in to check her!
Wow….. the monitors they had when I had my “baby” back in 1989 were nothing compared to this….I love the night feature. I hated it when I woke her up just because I looked in on her……..
I love that you can connect up to 4 cameras to the unit
I think this video monitor is much better then the regular monitor. I can’t tell you how many times I would hear a noise. Listen. Worry. Then get up and go see what the noise was. It was a forever circle.
i love this. i wish i owned one for my 5 month old. i always make sure i can keep an eye on her or see her since i don’t have one. this def. brings a piece of mind
What a comfort it would have been to have had this when my son was an infant some 25 years ago. Back then we could not even afford the walkie talkie type monitors that had just been out. These are absolutely wonderful!
I know that my daughter would love this for the new baby. It is a great price.
Sounds like a fantastic monitor! I love that multiple cameras can be used with one main unit and that the picture is quite clear and in color!
I have a video monitor and it’s priceless, it is the only way I can work and still see the baby while he sleeps because our place has 3 stories
This is fantastic! My neighbor just had a baby~I am passing this on 🙂
Someone needs to combine this and angelcare’s monitors. We have an angelcare one with the movement detector but I would have also loved to be able to see our son. I also love the intercom capability on this monitor. It would be useful to keep an eye on our son when he gets older and in a toddler bed.
I’m amazed at the distance that this works. We have been debating on monitors and have sometimes wondered about distance since we have another daughter who likes to be outside. Do you think the 2.4″ screen is adequate? I’ve seen larger screens and wonder what the difference actually is, other than the cost.
I would have loved to have this monitor when my son was a baby! It would be so reassuring to be able to see them and to talk to them!
We have been looking for a nice video monitor for our baby due next month! Love it!!!
I love that the technology of baby monitors has advanced to this stage.I also liked your review on this to keep us up to date on how advance they really are.We didn’t have such things when our kids were little.Thank you
I’ve never really felt the need for a monitor, but that’s because our little ones stay in the bed with us until they’re much bigger.
Gosh, how this would have helped me years ago. I use to be up so many times, to make sure my babies were breathing ok and to just check on them. I think it’s something every parent with a baby needs.
What, this looks so futuristic compared the monitor I use with my kiddos. Love the clear picture and the compactness of the monitor. My sister is due in December and I will look into this monitor for her. Thanks for reviewing.
I really like the intercom feature!
It’s amazing how clear the pictures are. What a help for preschoolers in the playroom!
I had no idea that Motorola made baby products, but this video monitor sure looks great. I am always paranoid, when it comes to my little one and SIDS, so this would be great.
I didn’t have a baby monitor with my first daughter, and after getting one for my second daughter, I am so kicking myself for not getting one in the first place! The peace of mind is worth every single penny. I love that I can see what she’s doing, if she’s got her foot stuck in the crib slats, or if she’s rolling around laughing. And how awesome that you can connect so many cameras so you don’t have to carry the parent unit around all the time.
that would be great to have in the new grandbabys nursery
I would LOVE to have one of these for our next child. We had the 10 dollar “special” monitor with our first and it was terrible. It caught so much static that it kept us awake at night and we sometimes couldn’t hear anything through the noise.
this is a great product. i wish they had had those around when my kids were babies. its great that is has great sound quality and the night vision mode.
I would love to have one of these. Our baby monitor sucks.
When my kids were little they didnt have these monitors. This one sounds much better than some of the others .I like that you can hook up to 4 others to the parent one. More volume sound and that its in color and I can talk back to them. This is nice.thanks for the information
I know someone that has been looking for a monitor with all those features! And I can’t believe how well the picture is.
It’s amazing how far these have come. I remember when my parents had one for my siblings and it was just like a walkie talkie. I always wanted one of these when I had my children but it was never in the budget. But I still love how the picture and sound quality is getting better every model.
We personally didn’t use a baby monitor, but I like the functions and interface of this one.
Oh wow I really need one of these!
I love the night vision and that you can talk to your baby. It looks like a great monitor!
I love our Motorola video monitor!
We have this monitor for my son and it’s great!
You know, I had a baby monitor for my son when he was little. It was nothing like this!!! I think these are absolutely amazing and I would have LOVED having one when he was small. I was forever running in there every time I heard him cry on the monitor.. you just didn’t know what they were crying for!!
This looks so handy and parent friendly
Monitors today have really gone hi tech, I love it. What I really like about this model is the intercom feature. Sometimes our little ones do need that reassuring voice if someone can’t be there right away. Thank you for a thoughtful review!
This looks like an awesome video monitor! Would love to have one!
These video monitors are so cool! Technology is amazing.
This looks like it would be really useful with an image that is more clear than I’d expect.
this is just amazing wow I have not seen anything like this ever I want one for everyroom now.
This thing is soooo sick, id love to buy one
This monitor is amazing! Parents of babies today are lucky!
We definitely are in need of a baby monitor. Now that our little guy is sleeping in his own room, a monitor would be great to have. I love the screen size on this Motorola model, and also the option to connect up to 4 cameras to the main unit. Looks and sounds like a great monitor!
This sounds like a great idea for new parents! They could check up on the baby when they’re not in the room!
LOVE technology advances sometimes! i remember the days where it was just the scratchy ol walkie talkie type baby monitors you could only hear out of. my sister is having a baby in October… she has a large house and would love this to take around with her
love that it has a night vision mode.
This looks like a priceless tool for moms. I like that it has two-way communication, especially.
I needed this several years ago!!!!!
This looks really cool! I love the push to talk feature what a really awesome thing to have!
looks great.would be a great idea for someone with a baby
This looks like the perfect solution to a lot of different problems. Infrared, ability to pan–if only it could change diapers, too! LOL. Seriously, thanks for the review.
This would be nice to have for when my grandson comes to visit us.
Wow I think they have made great advances in tech since I had my son. It such a great price for the peace of mind
I have commented on these 2 different times and the next day they are gone? I don’t get it.
looks like a great video monitor, thanks for the review.
Wow, I love that this has an intercom feature! I have never seen that on a baby monitor before.
I love that you can use the intercom and talk to the kids or baby:) Very handy!
The night vision on the Motorola video monitor is amazing and I love that up to four cameras can be connected!
i’m gonna recommend to my best friend who is expecting! wish i had one of these when my daughter was a baby
This is amazing! They come up with new and great baby items each year! I’m loving this for my 2 and even 8 year old because they’re both upstairs and our bedroom is downstairs – great hostess gift to go in on for a baby shower, too – this can be used forever and then passed down or resold – great resell value!!
Oh this would be perfect for the gma when she is out in the garden while the baby naps! Shes always worrying she cant do anything while she is napping. 🙂
This would make a great gift for expectant parents..I know when I had my first I was so nervous and this would certainly be helpful 🙂
I really like that you can connect up to four cameras onto one unit. I have four kids and this would have been great when they were younger.
I like the intercom part of it. This is a feature that I can use when kids are in the play room or when the baby is crying and i can talk to as I am heading to check on her.
I love seeing new versions of monitors and the technology really changing. I try to do my research and this seems like a front runner!
This would be a great monitor to have for my youngest, it is just nice to have that technology to see and hear
I like that there is an intercom feature if need be to talk to the little one in case they feel alone or get scared.
