A couple of months ago, when I was in NYC to attend the Marvel’s the Avengers Red Carpet event, we were treated to two screenings of upcoming movies. We saw People Like Us and The Odd Life of Timothy Green. I’ve never heard so many bloggers “sniffling” all at once, but I think since we are all moms, this movie really touched us all deeply.
The Odd Life of Timothy Green opens in theaters today, and I wanted to share my thoughts on the movie with you before you go!
The story is about a couple who can only dream of having a child. They desperately want to know the feeling of caring for and loving a child of their own. What they do not expect is for a child to just appear in the middle of the night. And we are not talking about just any child here – but Timothy!
We had the pleasure of meeting the director/writer of The Odd Life of Timothy Green. Peter Hedges (What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Dan in Real Life), is such a nice man, and he is absolutely passionate about this movie. He told us how he came up with the idea for the movie (he is quite the family man!), and after speaking with him before the movie, we were all super anxious to see it.
Jennifer Garner is fantastic as Cindy Green. She is a woman who desperately wants to be a mother. Her desperation clearly shows on her face, and she will definitely bring a tear to your eye. If you’ve ever yearned for a child, you will completely understand her feelings.
Joel Edgerton who plays Jim Green is an equally likable character, who, like Cindy, dreams of what their child would be like. He and Cindy sit down one night and come up with a list of everything they want their child to be. Little did they know that they would be surprised later that evening, in the most unusual way!
CJ Adams, who plays Timothy, is an amazing actor! He is so expressive and innocent – I think all of us bloggers at the screening wanted to put him in our pockets and take him home. Timothy Green is such a sweet, innocent little guy, who has the biggest heart in the world.
Although Timothy is a little “odd” and really quirky, there is something about him that you can’t help but love.
I was especially touched by the scenes with Timothy and Grandpa. Since my dad passed away fairly recently, these parts had me bawling (especially the hospital scene).
The message of the movie is simple but powerful: Sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts. This is proven in a funny and heartwarming way with The Odd Life of Timothy Green. This is a movie that the whole family will enjoy (Rated PG). I think your family might even leave the theater a little “closer” than when you walked in! I know that I desperately wanted to hug my children after I saw this, but they were several hundred miles away. I did wrap my arms around them, however, the minute I got home.
*I was treated to a free screening of this movie while at another event where travel & lodging were provided.
