Have an Oinktastic Holiday with Peppa Pig! – Review

Can you believe that the holidays are already upon us? It seems like it was just yesterday that we were gearing up for that chaos of back-to-school yet, somehow, we’re all preparing ourselves for holiday parties, winter weather, and muddy puddles frozen over with a thick layer of ice. Of course, the latter of the three would surely upset the piggy spirit in everyone. Thankfully, while we may be lacking of the sunshiny puddle-jumping days, the fun and joy that Peppa Pig brings is here to stay.

For those of you that may not be familiar with Peppa Pig, it is an adorable children’s show that focuses on the young daughter of a little, yet rather big, pig family. She, her parents, her younger brother, and her friends are constantly up to some sort of wondrous adventure that it sure to end with huge smiles on the faces of, both, characters and viewers alike.

Peppa is a lovable, exuberant little piggy who lives with her little brother George, Mommy Pig, and Daddy Pig. Peppa’s favorite things include playing games, dressing up, days out, and jumping in muddy puddles. Her adventures always end happily with loud snorts of laughter.

This holiday season, Peppa Pig helps parents to continue the excitement of adventures with friends, the days full of belly laughing fun, and the inevitable muddy puddle jumping. With the help of some rather oink-tastic items (last minute gift shopping anyone?), you and your children are now able to enjoy all things Peppa Pig through the holidays and the entire new year!

To kick of the festive spirit of the season, the lovely folks over at Peppa Pig sent me a wonderful package filled to the brim with a collection of new Peppa goodies and even a special Christmastime surprise!

The biggest, most exciting item included was, hands down, the new Peppa Pig’s Treehouse & George’s Fort Playset. We’ve purchased a number of action figure type of toys for the kids in the past but most just get stored away after a handful of uses. One of the things that I love most about Peppa Pig and this particular playset is that it truly draws in the attention of children. It is so much more than just another toy. Children relate to Peppa, George, and their friends and, through this playset, they are given the opportunity to play with the characters within a setting that is an adventure dream. After all, who doesn’t love a great treehouse and fort?

Bone of the things that makes this particular playset even more fun is the fact that it gives both the boys and girls their own separate areas while still incorporating the importance of playing together. In addition to the more feminine tea parties and the treehouse complete with a working light (some fancy space that is!), the fellas have a full fort for pirate play and scooter storage. Although they Peppa Pig and her brother George can each claim a space of their own, these siblings know how to kick their play up a notch by including each other. Simply swing on over and ride the tree swing zip line across the gap!

Of course, the holiday season is one in which we celebrate family. As great as the gifts may be, I am one of those people that tries to focus on presence more so than presents. Taking that into consideration, I’m sure that it won’t come as a surprise when I say that toys promoting family togetherness often take the top spot in my book. Next up is one that falls into that very category. For some of the older Peppa Pig fans, please allow me to introduce you to the oink-tastic new Peppa Pig’s Treasure Hunt Game!

Help Peppa Pig and friends find the buried treasure in this adorable 3-dimensional game! Move your way around the game board to collect the hidden treasure. Watch out for muddy puddles! If you land on a Muddy Puddle, you lose your turn! Be the first player to collect all six pieces of treasure to win the game!

I was pleasantly surprised when I learned that Peppa Pig had a board game of her very own and, at first, I wasn’t quite sure what to think of it. Knowing that fans of the show span a broad range of age groups, I was delighted to see that the game is suggested for children as young as 3-years-old. At the same time, this particular age range left me hesitant with my wondering as to whether or not it would be enjoyable for those kids that fall within the group of older little ones. Thankfully, the Peppa Pig’s Treasure Hunt Game was thoroughly enjoyable for everyone, myself included!

We’ve sat down to play the game a number of times thus far and each time is always as exciting as the last. It is a fun little contest to see who can make their way around the board the fastest while collecting all of the pieces in the process. Despite the Muddy Puddle wedge on the spinner being equivalent to a turn lost, the kids are actually excited to spin that result. Of course, they’ve chosen to modify the game by literally jumping in “muddy puddles” right there on the dining room floor until their next turn comes back around. Really, though, who could blame them? While the task at hand may be to collect the hidden treasure, they know quite well what Peppa Pig would do should there be a muddy puddle nearby.

On the topic of muddy puddles, there haven’t been all too many opportunities to go jumping as of late. Unfortunately, as exciting as the winter holidays are, when such puddles aren’t frozen over we often find that it’s simply too dark. Along with the frigid temperatures come the shorter days and early sunsets. Luckily, that’s where our next little Peppa Pig product comes in handy. Just take a look at these!

My little ones absolutely love anything and everything that lights up so there were a huge hit with them. These Peppa Pig Micro Lites reminded me of the keychain lights that many adults use to help find the keys and locks while in the dark. For the kids however, these ended up doubling as a flashlight of sorts as well as a miniature toy. While the red-colored LED doesn’t provide a ton of light, it gives off just the right amount for those pre-dinnertime muddy puddle jumping adventures. Best of all, they are absolutely perfect for when the kids take a note out of Peppa Pig and George’s book and venture off to build a blanket fort!

Last but certainly not least, we have to come full circle and touch base on the joy of the holidays. Along with the aforementioned sleigh load of Peppa Pig wintertime offerings, we were surprised with the inclusion of a brand new ornament featuring none other than Peppa Pig herself!

While we have already had our family’s Christmas tree up and fully decorated for some time now, there was no way that we could not find space for Peppa Pig. After moving a few things around, everyone’s favorite piggy pal now has a space within our tree to call her own.

With the holidays now in full swing, it’s time to deck the halls with Peppa Pig and, according to Joan Grasso (VP, Licensing), “the adorable, fun-filled new offerings, sure to be on everyone’s gift list, will inspire preschoolers to create their own exciting Peppa Pig adventures every day.” As a Peppa Pig VIP Parent, I must concur and enthusiastically so!
