Halloween Crafts, Decorations, and More with Oriental Trading!

Autumn begins my most favorite time of the year to do “holiday” crafts. I consider Halloween to be a holiday and in this family, we are pretty serious about it. My husband is really into the scary stuff but obviously our children aren’t all quite old enough to be okay with it. Actually, my oldest is terrified of scary Halloween things but my five year old thinks they’re the coolest. Even without a spooky Halloween, we get really involved! My husband creates his own decorations for the yard that aren’t too disturbing, I adorn the walls and surfaces indoors with some fancy decorations. Every year (except this one, sadly!) we dress up in costumes that are within one theme. For instance, last year we were Marvel comic book characters and the year before we dressed up like characters from The Wizard of Oz.

One of my favorite things to do with the kids are the crafts. I like relatively easy yet adorable crafts that all of my kids can do. Their classes always do the Halloween parties and I think that the kits from Oriental Trading would make for the perfect activities to do during them. Many of the Oriental Trading crafts are the adhesive craft kits that involve no glue or messy extra tools and accessories, and they’re simple to do and really allow the kids to express their creativity!

Color Your Own 2015 Pumpkin Patch Magnets

The Color Your Own 2015 Pumpkin Patch Magnets are simple, yet cute magnetic picture frames that you color. The rest of the crafts are foam adhesive characters and creatures, with the designing left up to your little one and his or her creativity!

Many of the crafts are recommended for children over age three but I supervised and did them with my 2, 3, and 5 year olds. Everyone had a great time and it was fun to see what each child came up with. For the foam adhesive crafts, you just take the backing off of each item and place it where you like. I demonstrated with the one of the three variations in the Monster Owl Ornament Craft Kit:

Step 1: Remove the adhesive backing from the owl eye circles and place them where you like.

Step 2: Repeat with the little beak.

Step 3: Repeat with adorable owl eyeballs.

Step 4: Remove backing and add cool bowtie.

Step 5: Remove backing and give owl his “Trick or Treat” sack.

Step 6: Take the string included and create a loop with both ends touching the back of the owl. Add the adhesive circle over top of these strings.
