With the back-to-school shopping season officially underway, we’ve been trying to make the summer-to-school transition easier on our little ones. Oftentimes, we adults don’t realize how stressful the change can be on children. Surely, we do what we can to make the transition as seamless as possible for them but even the thought of lugging all of those new school supplies can be an overwhelming one for youngsters. While our family typically opts for simple colors and the basic necessities when it comes to back-to-school shopping, I’ve found that many parents turn to the “friends” of their children to help bring them comfort and a sense of familiarity where school shopping is concerned. These “friends,” of course, are none other than their television character pals.
Take good ol’ Peppa Pig for instance.
I’m sure that, by now, many of you are relatively if not quite familiar with Peppa Pig. Whether it has been through your own personal experiences with it or through my previous features here on Eighty MPH Mom, Peppa Pig has certainly carved out a wonderful little niche in the world of children’s television and then some. This adorable show focuses on the young daughter of a little (or big?) pig family. She, along with her parents, younger brother, and many friends, are always up to some sort of fun adventure. As would be expected, this happy-go-lucky show and all of the silly antics always ends with a huge smile on the faces of, both, the characters and the viewers.
Peppa is a lovable, exuberant little piggy who lives with her little brother George, Mommy Pig, and Daddy Pig. Peppa’s favorite things include playing games, dressing up, days out, and jumping in muddy puddles. Her adventures always end happily with loud snorts of laughter.
Now that many families are preparing for the school time routines that are to come, children won’t be able to spend as much time with their favorite pig pals. It is because of this that so many kids opt for taking their TV friends into school with them. Whether it is through a favorite stuffed animal brought along for preschool naptime, a wonderful storybook to share with the class, an adorable t-shirt to sport throughout the day, or even a brilliantly designed backpack to carry all of the goodies, most kids love having their on-screen friends tag along in real life. Of course, with Peppa Pig being one of those incredibly fun friends, it’s only natural for little ones to want this exciting piggy on hand for such a big adventure like school.
Recently, the folks behind the Peppa Pig brand reached out to me and, as one of their VIP Peppa Pig Parents, I had the wonderful opportunity to try out some of the latest and greatest Peppa Pig back-to-school gear. Just take a look!
Peppa Pig: School Bus Trip DVD
Of course, since many children have been introduced to Peppa Pig through the wildly entertaining television show, the back-to-school festivities kick off with a charming DVD that is jam-packed with fun school time adventures.
In Peppa Pig: School Bus Trip, Peppa and her school friends take a trip to the mountains where she and her classmates have fun hearing echoes, having a picnic, and singing their favorite tune on the bus ride home – the “Bing Bong Song.” Back at school, Peppa attends gym class, acts in the school play, participates in sports day, and much more. Young viewers will love these hilarious adventures filled with lots of snorts, laughter, sunshine, and of course, jumping in muddy puddles.
The “Peppasodes” featured on this DVD include the following:
- School Bus Trip
- The School Camp
- Gym Class
- School Play
- Mister Skinnylegs
- Jamble Sale
- Sports Day
- The Quarrel
- Madame Gazelle’s Leaving Party
- The Library
In addition to the DVD itself, the Peppa Pig School Bus Trip DVD includes a bonus mini book – Peppa Pig Class Trip.
My own little ones have not started this school year just yet but I am glad to be able to say that, with the help of Peppa Pig, they have certainly taken a liking to the thought of getting back into the swing of things and enjoying a multitude of wondrous adventures at school. Both the DVD and the book have made the rounds where movie night and bedtime story requests are concerned and I actually enjoy them just as much as the kids do. Whether she’s singing along to her favorite songs, taking a swing at acting, or even playing a game in gym class, Peppa Pig always finds a way to have fun and, in turn, helps to make school fun for kids (and pigs!) everywhere!
Peppa’s Chalk ABCs Book by Scholastic
Something that we, as a family, try to place a lot of emphasis on are reading and writing. Although we’re still practicing things like letter sounds and proper penmanship, we have a wonderful little library of sorts here at home. With little ones however, the easiest way to practice the latter of the two is through the act of tracing. It is no secret that children have a great knack for copying us adults so what better way to teach them than by encouraging them to do as we do. We’ve incorporated tracing into the boys’ penmanship lessons here at home but the seemingly infinite amounts of paper don’t really cut it. I was pleasantly surprised when I learned that Peppa Pig was not only there to offer a form of entertainment but, through this book, is now able to assist in the learning aspect of children’s lives as well.
Learn to write with Peppa in this fun chalk book that features write-on, wipe-off pages! This adorable book includes sturdy board pages with a chalkboard coating for writing, a pack of colorful pink chalk, and a wipe-off eraser so kids can enjoy writing along with Peppa again and again.
With each of the pages of the Peppa Pig Peppa’s Chalk ABCs book depicting various letters of the alphabet properly aligned with the headline, midline, and baseline format in place, children can not only see how each letter is to be constructed but they can now practice them as well. Whether they want to try it one time or one thousand times, it’s as simple as writing with and then wiping away a bit of chalk.
We’ve certainly gone through our fair share of children’s penmanship products but most often feature a whiteboard and marker combination. Now, as well as that works, it is often messy where the marker is concerned. With this Peppa Pig book however, the chalk is easy breezy and quite literally so. I love that we are able to use it here at home as well as take it on the go. Whether you’re using the included wipe-off eraser, opting for the back of your hand, or even blowing away the chalk markings, kids can easily practice their ABCs time and time again with their favorite piggy pal – Peppa Pig!
Peppa Pig Peppa & George School Construction Set by Jazwares
Of course, after all of the learning and practicing is done, it’s always a good idea to enjoy some good ol’ play time. Amazingly enough, even the simple act of play can be quite educational and, with the all new Peppa Pig Peppa & George School Construction Set, your children can enjoy some fun play-based learning.
Everyone’s favorite pig is finally welcoming fans and friends into her family’s home with Peppa’s School Construction Set! Now your 2-5 year old can harness their creativity while piecing together this school building complete with Peppa and George, and 87 other pieces for their building pleasure. Both innovative and interactive, this set will allow your childto shape their minds as they shape Peppa’s place of learning!
With boys, we are often building things and subsequently knowing them down in our house, of course, only to do it all over again in five minutes. Whether it’s click-together blocks like LEGOs, simple stacking blocks, the classic alphabet baby blocks, or even an abundance of leftover cardboard boxes, we are always building something. Typically, it’s often things like soldiers and dragons with my boys or princesses and castles with my niece. Thankfully, with the back-to-school topic at hand, Peppa Pig spans the genders as well as an array of age groups. With the combination of easy to put together building blocks and adorable character dolls available to play with, both boys and girls, toddlers and preschoolers, even elementary-aged kids can thoroughly enjoy the school-themed play made possible with the Peppa Pig Peppa & George School Construction Set.
My boys were quickly able to construct this play set and, from there, enjoyed hours’ worth of fun “playing” school. As a parent, it was fun to see them not only play happily with one another but to also incorporate learning into their play. Our older son nominated himself to be the teacher while utilizing the Peppa Pig character and he, along with Peppa, taught the class (made up of our younger son and Peppa’s little brother, George). I eavesdropped as they went through their ABCs, 1-2-3s, and even a few simple addition and spelling lessons. Instead of being something that is dreaded come those early school mornings, the idea of school quickly became a fun one. For that, I have Peppa Pig to thank!
With our own first day of the new school year quickly approaching, I am so thankful to have been able to share these wonderful Peppa Pig products with my family. We are huge fans of all things Peppa related and I am thrilled to see that the brand has extended itself so far beyond the television screen. If I had to choose just one of my traditions – with limited finances we get the youth to draw a picture using their imagination and then just before bed we rehearse homework and tell a story that includes Peppa Pig. Generally, however, if it’s the weekend we get them to write a paragraph relating to the picture or about their feelings and then use it as an inspiration for the one story a week thats told to them thats not from a book but still includes Peppa Pig.
