With Earth Day fast approaching, many parents have tuned their thoughts to be a little more eco-friendly. A great way to celebrate is by using toys. Introducing your child to products and toys that are designed with sustainability in mind from start to finish is a win-win! We were excited when Plan Toys sent Luv one of their newest block sets to review. [*]
Sawdust Breathes New Life into Toy Materials.
PlanToys recycles wood from preservative free, naturally processed rubberwood trees. I think that is great in and of itself. But their newest addition takes it a step further by using the PlanToys sawdust! PlanWood is made from the remaining sawdust from making other toys. PlanToys also uses non-formaldehyde glue and non-toxic, safety-certified water-based dyes. I feel much better about having toys like this in our home.
The Castle Blocks set is classified developmentally under building coordination and creative skills. The set comes with double-sided detailed blocks, knights, and a sweet little horse. In all, there are 35 pieces to stoke your child’s imagination and let them create many grand adventures!
Pretend play is an amazing thing.
While these Castle Blocks make for a fun experience, I was delighted to see Luv use her imagination even more so. While she thoughtfully rearranged the blocks, I asked what she was making…
I’m building a bedroom in a house. Here’s his bed. And that’s his Momma on the chair. Here’s his Sissy. There’s the lamps. But I need a cage for the horse.
~ Luv
I giggled and suggested building a stable for the horse instead of a cage. She took it into consideration.
After having the blocks for a handful of days now, they haven’t lost their appeal to her. Each morning after we do her lessons, she gets them out to play. I asked her what she thought of them now that she’s played with them many times…
They’re my favorite! I like making houses and castles and towers. Like the Two Towers with Gandalf? But it makes me a little sad when he (Bugsy) knocks it all down. I think it’s an accident though. So that’s okay. But he shouldn’t do that.
~ Luv
Clearly she could go on for days about her Castle Blocks! *chuckle* Whether she builds a regal castle or a quaint home, she has so much fun with this set.

These look like such fun blocks!
See these are the kinds of toys I LOVE! I love seeing my kiddos playing with blocks. I think they learn so much. The world is consumed with electronic toys!
I couldn’t agree more, Mary! We’ve always preferred simpler and pretend play toys. I think they are much more fun! 🙂
Beautiful pictures – first! I love wooden toys and definitely encourage thinking outside the “blocks”. 😉
Thank you, Lindsey! I love wooden toys, too. There is a retro appeal to them.
Those remind me of the types of toys we had when I was little. Although, I’m sure they weren’t nearly as eco friendly & non-toxic.
Ha! Very true. I often see toys and block sets I used to play with as a child on ebay or Etsy and wonder how safe they were…
What great blocks to spark creativity in kids. I love the variety in the different shapes!
