It’s Prom Season Try ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses for Teens

disclosure sponsored post
Even in this day of the hipster glasses that I see all of the high schoolers wearing these days – hey, I’m not judging, I have my own pair! – I notice those glasses are absent when it comes to those big high school events…in particular Prom! Let’s face it, glasses won’t necessarily match the dress or tux and how can the girls show off their smokey eye makeup with glasses covering their face?  Whether your high school student wear glasses or perhaps they’re trying out contact lenses like ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses for the first time, it’s important to make sure you give your kiddo’s a few extra days to get used to this change.

ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses are designed with comfort in mind with several different types to suit the needs young adults, like my high school student.  He’s active and has long days.  Every morning he heads in early to work on welding and after school he has track.  Most days, Johnny puts in a longer days than we do!  Eye/contact comfort is very important on these long and exhausting days.

Another all day (and night!) event is Prom! It takes hours to get ready – okay, so maybe it’s a little bit easier for the guys, but one important aspect that will keep both guys and girls dancing until the break of dawn are comfortable contact lenses. From daily disposables like 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST Brand Contact Lenses to reusable lenses like ACUVUE OASYS® Brand Contact Lenses, all ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses are designed with comfort in mind.

Practice makes perfect, and comfort is critical! Your doctor will show you how to easily insert and remove your contact lenses. Once you learn how to handle your lenses, you’ll be surprised by how easy it is! Also, it is very important to care for lenses properly, based on your eye doctor’s instructions. One thing I like about contact lenses is that it puts the responsibility on my son’s shoulders.  Proper care for contact lenses is absolutely necessary.

When it comes to contact lenses, the key is a smooth transition is time.  Give your student plenty of time to adjust to wearing contacts.  It takes a lot of practice to easily insert and remove contact lenses, even for high school students.  Practice, practice, practice some more, you know what they say – practice makes perfect!

Dr. Elaine Brisco of Hollywood Vision Center has some fantastic tips on contact lenses that I would like to share with you:

She first reminds us that you should never, ever wear another person’s contact lenses, nor should you use anything aside from recommended solution to lubricate your lenses (such as saliva or tap water). It’s important to care for lenses properly, based on your eye doctor’s instructions.

DO:

~Wash and rinse your hands thoroughly with a mild soap and dry with a lint-free towel before handling your lenses

~Put in your contacts before you put on your makeup

~Remove lenses immediately if you experience eye discomfort, excessive tearing, vision changes, and redness of the eye or other problems and promptly contact your eye care professional

~Always remove, clean and disinfect your lenses according to the schedule recommended by your eye doctor

DON’T:

~Wear another person’s lenses.

~Use anything aside from recommended solution to lubricate your lenses (such as saliva or tap water).

~Be sure to change your contact lenses according to your eye care practitioner’s instructions and never wear them beyond the advised time period.

~As an added bonus, teens can use the free ACUMINDER® Online Tool, which offers teens a foolproof guide to contact lens care with reminders sent automatically when it’s time for a fresh pair (http://www.acuminder.com/).

If your teen is interested in trying out a new look, talk to your eye care professional – they are trained to find the right lens! It doesn’t hurt to do a little extra research, too.

  1. I’ve been wearing contacts for over 30 years and can’t imagine going back to glasses full time ever gain! Teens are the perfect age for contacts…except mine. She can’t stand touching her eye and we tried contacts. Bummer for her but she doesn’t mind her glasses and always picks out the coolest frames. Still makes me kinda sad but her decision.

  2. I’ve been wearing glasses since 1962 (OMG, am I THAT OLD?), and I think it’s time to swtich to contacts. I’ve heard that ACUVUE is the best brand, from many reviews. Gonna go for it!

  3. Great tips! ACUVUE makes great contacts. They are so comfortable I forget I have them in.

  4. I need to get my eyes checked. At 49 they seem to be getting much worse and I hate the thought of wearing glasses. I would definitely look into these.

  5. When my son was wearing contacts this was the brand he used. He never had any problems with them, he just preferred glasses. They worked great for him.

  6. I loved it when I started wearing contact lenses. My problem with glasses was I was always leaving them places and breaking them. Contacts were better for me.

  7. When I was in high school I couldn’t wear contacts because they didn’t make them for astigmatism.
