Reduce Your Stress With Meditation

What is meditation?

I am going to turn to the experts in mediation and mindfulness, Headspace. They say that meditation is, “about training in awareness and getting a healthy sense of perspective. You’re not trying to turn off your thoughts or feelings. You’re learning to observe them without judgment”. This is crucial to understand. A lot of people think having thoughts during meditation means you cant meditate properly. That is incorrect. In fact, as you learn you can use those thoughts and feelings to discover what you are actually feeling, which can help you find ways to fix those issues. Embrace your thoughts during meditation don’t run from them!

How long should you meditate to see results?

I have tried a few different meditation techniques and the general consensus is to not exceed 20 minutes at a time, or per session. Some people meditate twice a day, some once. It depends on your needs. I think you start experiencing results within a week of solid practice, and it just keeps getting better and better the more consistent you are each week. Its worth setting aside 10 minutes each day and its free to try!

Can meditation be effective at reducing stress?

YES! According to the Mayo Clinic, “Meditation can wipe away the day’s stress, bringing with it inner peace”. The fact that a hospital organization, one of the biggest in the world, recommends mediation as an option for stress reduction, we need to listen! Check out this list of the benefits of meditation from verywellmind.com – they include things like improving your blood pressure, heart rate, immune system, etc. Just those four items will impact your stress level immediately. When your body is in that fight response, or if its experiencing a high cortisol spike, just taking 10 minutes to breathe and focus you will see those benefits mentioned.

What does meditation do to the brain?

If you follow along on my blog, you will notice a couple posts on brain health or brain health food. Its a passion of mine to find ways to improve cognition or prevent dementia, etc. Meditation is another tool in your toolbox. It has been show to improve your brain function in regards to improving your focus, attention, compassion, etc. All related to the brain. In my mind, it provides the brain some rest and relaxation. The brain is always working, with no break at all, and I like to think it just helps optimize all the functions the brain needs to do when I take time to let my body relax and meditate. That is just my view point though!

Combine Kratom and meditation for superior relaxation

When it comes to relaxation techniques, few options can top combining Kratom and meditation. Kratom is a natural herb with medicinal properties, while meditation is a practice that has been used for centuries to achieve peace of mind. When these two practices are combined, they can produce a state of profound relaxation. Green Horn Kratom is known for its ability to create feelings of calm and serenity. In addition, it can help relieve stress and anxiety, making it the perfect choice for those looking for relief from tension and worry. Meditation is also great for reducing stress levels, and when practiced regularly, it can help improve mental clarity and focus.

Resources and tools for learning how to meditate

If you are wanting to learn more about the health benefits of mediation for children, or for yourself, I recommend trying Ziva meditation. It was created by Emily Fletcher, an author and former dancer. After she was experiencing so much stress she could not do her job anymore, she became so passionate that she studied for years from the experts and then developed this program for us to be able to use! She recently started a program for kids as well, which is a great habit to form while they are young!

If you are not wanting to spend a lot of money then I recommend Calm or Headspace. They have a free app with some free guided meditations and stories to give you a great intro into meditation. They also show the science and health benefits of meditation with scholarly articles on their blogs, if you are wanting to see more of the science, I would check those out. These two apps are very similar, so you might try both to see which one feels more comfortable for you.

Another great app is the simple breath trainer for kids (or adults too!). This a great introduction into learning how to focus on your breath to calm yourself down during anxious or stressful times.

In summary, meditation can reduce your stress and making it a habit to meditate 10 minutes a day you will see a great impact in your anxiety and stress levels. Your friends and family will thank you for learning how to reduce your stress!
