Riceworks healthy snacks review

I’m always on the lookout for healthy snacks, but not just any healthy snacks–I want snacks that have bold flavors or different textures so I can forget that I’m eating something that’s good for me. (I mean, really, if I was just looking for something healthy, I’d have some celery stalks, right?) riceworks just happens to be one of those brands that pulls off the whole healthy-but-tasty thing perfectly. riceworks takes the nutritional powerhouse that is brown rice and combines it with flavors like Sweet Chili and Salsa Fresca to make tortilla-like chips that your whole family will love.

Let’s talk about the health stuff first. Brown rice is a whole grain, so unlike potato chips, riceworks delivers 7 grams of nutritious whole grains in each serving. Riceworks chips are made with all natural ingredients and they contain no preservatives, artificial flavors, wheat, trans fat and are gluten-free. Some varieties are vegan too! If you’re trying to reach a lunchbox compromise with your children (yes, the age old “they want potato chips, you want to give them carrot sticks” conundrum), riceworks chips are the perfect solution.

Now that we’ve gotten the nutritional info out of the way, it’s time to discuss the fun stuff–the flavors! riceworks chips come in the following varieties:
riceworks flavors

Sweet Chili – A perfect blend of sweet and spicy.

Sea Salt – A hearty crunch with a hint of salt, great for pairing up with dips, hummus, or salsa.

Parmesan & Sundried Tomato – The rich flavor of sun-dried tomatoes coupled with the creamy taste of Parmesan cheese.

Salsa Fresca – So loaded with flavor, you will forget they are better for you than your favorite chips and salsa!

Tangy BBQ – A combination of sweet and smoky that creates a smooth BBQ flavor with a kick.

For this review, I sampled the Sea Salt and Parmesan & Sundried Tomato riceworks chips. I found that they tasted very similar to corn tortilla chips, but they were a little bit heartier and thicker. The Sea Salt chips stood up well to the smoked paprika hummus that I had on hand, while the Parmesan & Sundried Tomato chips were delicious on their own. I am a big fan of Parmesan cheese and I appreciated the rich, savory flavor of these chips. My only complaint is that most of the chips in both bags were broken!

If this has piqued your interested and you want to try riceworks, be sure to head over to the riceworks Facebook page. Use their Confess Your Snacking Sins app to ‘fess up to some of your less virtuous snack choices and you’ll receive a $1 off coupon for any bag of riceworks chips.
