If you walked into my house and looked in the hall closet, you would see a huge stack of games piled up all the way to the ceiling. My husband thinks we have too many, but I don’t agree – you can never have too many games! I enjoyed playing games as a child and I have either saved my favorites or bought classic ones to pass along to my children. My oldest daughter has started showing an interest in playing games, and she has chosen a few select games that she loves getting out and playing. And we now have another game to add to the list of those we enjoy playing often – a new game from
Blue Orange Games called
Ring It!
Ring It comes with a stack of ninety cards and a bell in a tin case. The cards have different numbers, colors, and shapes on them. The rules are simple – each player gets ten facedown cards. Players take turns flipping over one card at a time into their individual faceup piles. When there are two matching cards on the table (either by matching numbers, colors, or shapes), then the first player to clap his or her hands and ring the bell gets everyone else’s faceup cards and adds them to the bottom of his or her facedown pile. The game ends when one player runs out of cards, and the player with the most cards wins!
There are also some “Ring It” cards, and when there are two “Ring It” cards faceup, the first player to clap and ring the bell gets all of the faceup cards. But you have to be careful because there are also trick cards that look like the “Ring It” cards, but they do not have the words “Ring It” on them. You don’t want to be the one to accidentally ring the bell at the wrong time! If you make a mistake (ringing the bell without clapping or clapping/ringing at the wrong time), then you have to discard all faceup cards and three additional cards.
My daughter had a great time with Ring It. I liked how the game was both educational and fun, and it kept my daughter on her toes looking for matching numbers and colors so she could be the first to ring the bell. Even after I quit playing, she kept at it, flipping the cards to find matches. It was fun to hear “Mommy! These cards are both ones!” following by a clap and a ring!
Another fun thing about Ring It is that you can make up your own rules to make the game more entertaining. For example, the winner of each round can choose a silly action that players have to do before ringing the bell in the next round. It is easier with a four year-old to do the clap and ring, but it would be fun to require a different action, like doing a little dance, making an animal sound, patting your tummy, or sticking out your tongue. You can also make a rule that you can only clap/ring when you have two cards that add up to a certain number or when the colors of the cards would combine to make a certain color. You can sure get creative in thinking up silly and funny things to do!
Ring It sells for $14.99, and would make a perfect gift or stocking stuffer for your little game lover. You can buy
