Thanksgiving is over, but the memories will not be fading anytime soon. We celebrated our first big holiday in our new home, and our loved ones traveled from out of state to see us. It was everything we dreamed it would be and more. We also enjoyed the our first snow (and it was quite a storm – 15″!). There were so many firsts for us – we have been working on our new wood burning fireplace for MONTHS and literally finished it the day before Thanksgiving. We were able to welcome our guests in our home with a warm and cozy fire, after they unpacked their cars and trudged through the snow to get inside. The snow, the fireplace (and of course the goodies) made our first Thanksgiving here everything we had hoped. It was perfect, and I will never the fun we had making memories with Sea Salted Chocolate Oatmeal Bars made with Jif Whips!

But lets get to the best parts of Thanksgiving – the massive amounts of amazing food and the family gathering. Our house was filled to the brim with people, but luckily our house is huge and could easily accommodate everyone comfortably. We had my brother and his girlfriend, my sister-in-law and her boyfriend, my two nephews (and a girlfriend) and my daughter.

As with most Thanksgiving meals, there was quite a variety of foods being prepared in our home. We had plenty of appetizers, a huge prime rib, turkey, a green bean casserole, my sister-in-law’s garlic mashed potatoes, warm rolls and of course several scrumptious desserts. It was definitely a feast (all weekend long!)! There was always somebody cooking something in the kitchen during the four day weekend, and our home smelled so inviting.

One of our desserts was a team effort. I thought it would be fun to include our family in the process of making one of the tastiest desserts ever. Since my parents passed away several years ago, I have been trying to come up with new traditions for our family, and this one just might be it! I got my nephews involved in helping me make a very special recipe. It is a recipe that reminds me of my childhood and baking with my mom. I remember making lots and lots of cookies with her, many of which had Jif peanut butter as the primary ingredient. She loved the smooth, creamy texture and of course the wonderful flavor of Jif.

As I mentioned above, the recipe is one that my mom used to make – I modified it a bit so that everyone could participate. I was really excited to try a product that I just recently learned of – Jif Whips.  Although Jif isn’t new, their Jif Whips is part of the lineup of new fun (and convenient) products.

JIF whips peanut butter and chocolate

The original dessert was Chocolate Topped Chewy Oatmeal Bars. Basically it is an oatmeal bottom with melted chocolate topping. I decided to layer it, adding more decadence, and of course using one of my favorite products – Jif. Well, specifically, Jif Whips!

Jif Whips

Ingredients:

2 cups quick cooking oats
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tub Jif Whips Whipped Peanut Butter & Chocolate
White chocolate chips
Caramel
Sea Salt

Directions:

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix all ingredients (except caramel, chocolate chips and Jif Whips). Spread into greased 9 x 9 pan . Bake until slightly bubbly, about 8 minutes or so. Let cool down a bit (maybe 5 minutes or so), then empty the whole container of Jif Whips on top of mixture. Let topping sit for about 2 minutes until it starts to melt. Spread topping as it starts to melt. Refrigerate, then melt white chocolate. Spread this over Jif Whips layer, and refrigerate again for 20 minutes or so. Repeat this process with melted caramel. Sprinkle top with coarse sea salt.

Oh my gosh – you should have heard the comments from everyone about Jif Whips! I am not kidding when I say they were smitten with it and pretty much grabbing the somewhat empty container. My sister-in-law finally won. She didn’t know I was watching her when I took this. She was seriously trying to get every last bit out of the container 🙂

I compiled a video that shows just how much fun we had over the Thanksgiving weekend. I also wanted you to see how Jif peanut butter pretty much brought us together in many ways. Not only was our special dessert a team effort, but it encouraged the rest of the family to play board games at our kitchen table, while the rest of us baked. It was truly amazing.

I present to you our Thanksgiving!

As you can see, everyone had a blast. Everyone also loved the Sea Salted Chocolate Oatmeal Bars. The flavors worked together beautifully. Tada!

Why I love Jif Whips:
~It is incredibly convenient! When you want that chocolate and peanut butter combination (and who doesn’t!), simply grab a tub of Jif Whips and you can quickly make any recipe you’d like.
~It spreads very easily. Our oatmeal bar was just slightly warm when we added the Jif Whips, and we had no problems whatsoever
~The taste – oh my! It is decadent without being too rich. The flavor combination is so, so good. Jif Whips is definitely swoon-worthy!
~It is made by Jif! Need I say more? I know I can count on Jif to use quality ingredients in its products, and they certainly did not let me down with this one.

Did you know that Jif Whips come in other flavors too? Yep! I was delighted to see that in addition to the Peanut Butter & Chocolate combo, they also have Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Pie Spice, Peanut Butter & Salty Caramel, and also plain Peanut Butter Jif Whips! Make sure you keep an eye out for them the next time you are shopping. Trust me, it will make your holiday baking SO much easier!
