SONIC Limeades for Learning helps classrooms!
Let’s face it…our schools and teachers here in the U.S. are really struggling. Teachers want to do some amazing things with their students, but the funds aren’t always available. This is why I am so excited about Sonic Drive-In and their Limeades for Learning program.
Throughout the month of October, SONIC distributed $1 million to public school teachers across the U.S. People voted on different projects, and the project that received the most votes at the end of each week received desperately needed funding. The remaining projects got a chance to be fulfilled each week as the votes rolled over.
Although the voting period is over, please remember that you can donate via DonorsChoose.org at any time. Classrooms can always use the help and teachers (and their students) will be very grateful!
Last year I participated by donating to a classroom who had a project to do with stop motion animation. I chose this classroom because my son, who has a degree in stop motion animation, hopes to work at Laikas one day soon. How cool that this classroom got to visit and have hands on fun. Here is the letter I received from the teacher:
The teacher also had photos of the students involved in their projects. The students wrote me notes thanking me. They super cute, thoughtful and heartwarming!
This year I chose a different teacher with a different goal, and she and her students were very grateful as well. It felt good to help again!
Recognizing public school teachers needed more support, SONIC Drive-In partnered with DonorsChoose.org ten years ago. In 2009 SONIC launched Limeades for Learning with its first Fall Voting campaign. Limeades for Learning® is a national award-winning initiative to support U.S. public school teachers in local communities.
Since 2009, when SONIC’s Limeades for Learning philanthropic campaign began, SONIC has donated $10.4 million to public school teachers. This in turn has helped oodles of students (over 600k!) across the U.S. I think this is such
a wonderful program that SONIC and students and teachers are able to get the much needed learning materials and other resources to help teachers with new creative ideas and bring them to life.
By 2021 SONIC’s total contribution to local public school classrooms will exceed $20 million. Now THAT is a staggering number, and it just makes me smile.
Don’t forget, that you can help a classroom in need too. Just visit DonorsChoose.org and either look over the various projects, or choose your favorite teacher to help. Any amount helps!
