Being rested up when you travel is important, as we all know, but it can also keep you healthy (you certainly don’t want to get sick on the long awaited vacation!). The unfortunate thing when your vacation involves flying in an airplane, is that, for hours you are in close contact with other people who could be sick. Since the air is recirculated, who knows what is being passed around! There isn’t a whole lot you can do about this, but you can take a few precautions during your flight, to hopefully ward off a cold or other bug. I highly recommend that you use oodles and oodles of hand sanitizer while on the airplane, and throughout the airport after you land. Just make sure it is a small bottle – you know how the airlines are! You may even want to wear a paper mouth/nose mask on the plane.

Bring your favorite pillow. This is something I have done since I was a child. I rarely leave home without my beloved pillow. I have found that hotel pillows can be either really comfy, or absolutely horrid. It is hard to get comfortable on a bad pillow, and I end up tossing and turning all night.
Bring earplugs. Sometimes when I stay at hotels and am ready for some serious sleep, other guests are not. Many times the folks in the room next door are ready to party all night long. You might hear yelling and hollering ’til the wee hours, and it is incredibly frustrating, when all you want is to be rested the next day. Another reason to bring earplugs is in case you are near an elevator or a busy hallway. I can’t tell you how many times I have been in a hotel and have heard kids, teens and even adults running and screaming in the hallway late at night. How rude! Or your roommate/spouse might be a snorer. Pop those earplugs in and follow my final suggestion below!
Pamper Yourself! Pack some “spa” type products to enjoy in the bathtub right before bed. For me, this is the ultimate in relaxation, and the best way to get rid of stress. Let the warm water soak those tired muscles. This should also help you drift off to sleep easily (after you are out of the tub of course!).
Go to bed at a reasonable hour. This is easy to forget when you are out and about in a new town (or maybe an old one), but it’s just not worth it to stay up so late – on purpose.

Hi Jennifer! I agree, a good night’s sleep can make all the difference when you are on vacation….. or even at home. Thanks for the great tips.
You’re very welcome!
Hey Jennifer, thank you so much for sharing some tips on good night sleep while traveling, I have faced the same problems while traveling as you have mentioned and I found out that I don’t know how to tackle them, but really some of your points are pretty good and doable.
