When I first heard about Lysol’s Healthing campaign, I was slightly confused. As I researched a little bit, I found that Healthing is something so incredibly important, and I am happy that one of my favorite brands is leading the way to make us ALL healthier!

Sure, we all clean, but why? What happens if things are left dirty? Germs, bacteria, mold and mildew happen, and that certainly is not safe for anyone. Obviously we all clean so that our homes, cars, etc. look nice, but there is a deeper reason, and that’s what Lysol Healthing is all about.

In addition to cleaning at home, and even taking extra steps to make sure your home is not only clean, but sanitized, there is more work to do! Think about schools and all of the germs that spread like wildfire throughout schools. Have you checked into what steps your child’s teacher and school take to ensure that they are going beyond just cleaning?  This is so important, as this has been one of the worst flu/cold seasons in a long, long time (and I hope your family was spared!).

When my kids were little (and even now with my 16-year old daughter), I always made sure that they each had a bottle of hand sanitizer in their backpacks and reminded them to use it throughout the day. They were (and my daughter still is) really good about this fortunately, but I wonder how many kids are not doing this? One way you can help is to donate containers of Lysol wipes to your child’s school, and especially their classroom. Maybe volunteer to go in and help out once or twice a week and give everything a good wipe-down. Hopefully the teacher(s) will also be encouraged to do this if they have the necessary supplies on hand.

Lysol wants to bring Healthing to schools, and other public places too. For instance, LYSOL and television personality Giuliana Rancic have partnered up and will be visiting YMCAs in certain markets across the country. While visiting, they will demonstrate Healthing in action. At each YMCA location visited, LYSOL will provide attendees with education about products and the steps required, so they too can practice healthy (and improved) hygiene habits in their own home. They will be making this idea fun and relatable to kids. LYSOL will also be providing educational information as well as disinfecting products to the local YMCAs. But wait, there’s more! LYSOL will also make aonation of a one-year membership to a deserving family!

Here are a few tips that will help you start Healthing.

Spring Cleaning can be daunting. It doesn’t have to be though, stock up on products that will help you to get the job done effectively. These include LYSOL® products, paper towels, trash bags and sponges. I have found that all cleaning (not just Spring cleaning) is SO much easier when you concentrate on one room at a time.  Let’s call this Spring Healthing instead of Spring Cleaning, shall we?

You must know the difference between cleaning and disinfecting! These are both so important to the Healthing process. LYSOL® has products that can help with just about every cleaning need you have. Kill those germs killing germs on commonly touched surfaces! By doing so, the risk of spreading bacteria and viruses between members of the family is reduced drastically. I usually get the areas I can reach easily first (and are most commonly touched), then I grab a step stool and get the higher spots and those hidden/hard to reach areas. Make sure you get the light switches, door knobs, appliance handles, etc. too (just think how often they are used!).

Don’t forget to dust! I found a neat way to clean my lampshades the other day – I used my handheld vacuum and it worked amazingly well. I didn’t realize how much dust was on my cloth lampshades (*gag*).

Get the kids involved in house cleaning. Younger kids can pick up toys and other objects off the floor while you do the harder work. It is a great way for them to learn about cleaning, and hopefully their clean habits will follow them through adulthood.

I use several Lysol products, but the Lysol Dual Action Wipes are my favorite. I keep a tub in each bathroom in our house, as well as in the kitchen. Of course there are extra containers stored in the garage, because I feel a little lost if I run out of them. Here is why I love them so much (in addition to convenience!):

Kills 99.9% of Viruses and Bacteria*
Kills Cold and Flu Viruses including Pandemic 2009 H1N1 Influenza A
One side with built in Fibers for Tough Messes or a Side for Touch-up cleaning
Available in Citrus Scent

Remember to practice proper hand washing as well after you clean, either with soap and water for 20 seconds or a hand sanitizer. Hand washing is the single most important thing you can do to prevent illness, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

  1. I use both these wipes and clorox and I am forever grabbing a wipe to keep counter tops cleaned and sanitized. I also like to spray the home occasionally with lysol just to kill any viruses that may be in the home. Great products they have.

  2. Great tips! I’ve used Lysol for many years and the wipes are great. I also love spraying Lysol on our bed pillows before putting on the cases. It helps keep them smelling fresh.

  3. We’ve been using Lysol products for many years and have nothing to say but good things about them. They help me keep my house clean and germ free and I always have Lysol wipes with me when we go shopping — We must strive to keep ourselves and our families healthy.

  4. I’ve always trusted in Lysol. I sometimes hate the fact they don’t do the “green” thing, however. But, I love the fact that it keeps my home looking and smelling so clean.

  5. I clean houses part time for extra cash (grocery money)…and let me tell you, it’s amazing the things that most people forget to clean such as lamp shades, light switch plates, behind the toilet, door knobs, baseboards, etc. I don’t do a typical “Spring Clean” like most do…I do YEAR ROUND detail clean so that I do not need to do a yearly spring clean. I rotate my deep cleaning into my normal maintenance clean so that it is never overwhelming 🙂 Lysol is a product that we use a lot when one of our children is sick with the flu, cold, etc…and let me tell you folks, it helps TREMENDOUSLY to control the spreading of germs! With three kids and two adults, it’s important ! 🙂

  6. I’ve become fanatical about my food prep surfaces. not only is the counter itself always clean and disinfected but I have a system of small color coded cutting boards (with the meat strictly separated from the salad board) and they are all cleaned and sanitized every day. Yes, I am a bit of a nut.

  7. I love the disinfecting wipes! The new wipes that you can also dust with look so neat! Thanks for the review, i’ll definitely have to try them out!

  18. I love Lysol wipes and use them all over my home. I always forget about the lampshades when I dust the furniture!
