Jaxon is my 3 1/2 year old son. He’s always happy and a very content little boy. Everyone falls in love with him the instant they meet him, but the first thing everyone notices about him is his lack of communication. He has a handful of words he can clearly say, and he can answer yes/no questions so we can figure out his wants/needs, but that’s about it because he grunts and makes noises for other things and we can’t understand him. I was sent the Super Duper Publications’ eCatalog link and was sucked in immediately seeing many things that Jaxon could benefit from to help him not only communicate with us but encourage his own language skills. I decided the one product that could help all of us out the most is the Carrie Communication Cards.

Carrie Communication Cards is a portable and durable augmentative communication system for students with limited verbal skills. The 740 color-coded cards (2″x 2 ¼”) are made of durable, phthalate-free plastic and give you the vocabulary choices you need to establish a basic vocabulary to meet the needs of your students at home or in the classroom. TheSymbolStix® Symbols are clear representations of words, phrases, and ideas.

As soon as I got the cards I was thrilled. They come in a wonderful leather case that keeps them organized and together. The cards were all packed up and already organized by their color codes and in alphabetical order within their color. I just had to unwrap them and put them in the case with the separators. Each color is a different category which makes it easy to find the word you are looking for. There are 22 categories:

Jeff went through the cards and picked some he thought he could use the most with Jaxon, I did the same and we each have our own key chain that we use with him. I then took the rest into school and talked to his teachers about them and asked them to pick out some and put on a key chain to keep in school. His teachers loved it and I found out his speech therapist was already using something similar with him so it was easy to start using everywhere with him. I always try to keep things consistent with him, if they are doing something with him at school then I try to do it at home and they do the same for what we do at home.
Included with the Carrie Communication Cards are:
- 740 color-coded cards (2″x 2¼”)
- Instruction Booklet with ideas for use
- 5 key chains with rings
- Black briefcase for easy transportation
