Thoughts about toothpaste

Over the past few weeks, I have told you my thoughts on dental care. What I didn’t tell you was the extensive amount of dental work I have had. One dentist even told me that I have “one of everything” in my mouth. I pretty much do! I have crowns, bridges, etc., and not only were they really expensive, but they required many trips to the dentist, as they were done in phases. Even people who are diligent in their dental care can still experience problems which require substantial dental work.  Brushing and flossing frequently and flossing are crucial to ensure healthy teeth and gums, and the toothpaste you use is equally important.

I am still using the Arm & Hammer Advance White Brilliant Sparkle toothpaste, and as silly as it sounds, I kind of look forward to brushing my teeth.  There is something about this toothpaste that makes my teeth and mouth feel extra clean.  Perhaps it is the baking soda.  Whatever it is, I know my teeth will benefit greatly with continued use.

  10. I have spent countless painful hours in the chair. They don’t tell you that arthitis can affect your teeth. I went from having perfect, no cavities, to brittle teeth, that gave me alot of problems.

  16. Hi! 🙂 I’ve just had normal trips to the dentist; once a number of years ago, I had the beginning of a cavity filled in, but nothing beyond that. But I still have my wisdom teeth, and I’m hoping once you have hit your 30s it’s too late to do anything about that because I really don’t want to go under the knife for that!

  19. I have TMJ and yes I have spend hours in the Dental chair because of pain caused by it. I have a mouth guard that I wear at night because I grind my teeth..

  27. Yes, I’ve tried Arm & Hammer Advance White Brilliant Sparkle and the only dental work I’ve had done was an osseous surgery to but bone filler in my left incisor that had a hole in it under the gum. Its not as bad as one would think 🙂

I have had root canals, deep cleaning (done with gavatron instrument (sp?) and that hurts too, plus too many fillings that I’ve lost track and a few teeth pulled, some were wisdom teeth, others that were beyond saving, unfortunately for me my dental issues are from bone loss, drinking too much pop when I shouldnt, they were not from failing to go regularly to the dentist for regular cleanings, I havent missed one in 30 yrs plus, but heredity and smoking, the pop, ect all have played a part in my mouth, and no I havent used Arm& Harmer yet,

  353. I have had so much done to my teeth, it is pitiful. The only ones I don’t have crowned/capped are the 4 front on top and bottom. I brush 2 times daily and I do take care of them. But mine stems from when I was a toddler. I had to have all my teeth pulled, some kind of medicine ate thru my enamal. My dentist says my teeth now are weak. So, I just have to stay on top of things.

  388. At age 72, I still have all my own teeth. Do have some crowns as a result of the fact that we didn’t get much dental care when I was a child, but I guess a good set of genes and good care as I became an adult is paying off!

  471. I would gladly spend countless hours in the dentist’s chair having my jaw re-aligned and having implants and caps if I had the money. As it is, My jaw was never properly aligned when I was younger, so my teeth grind down, and there is nothing I can do about it.

  478. Oh yeah I have spend countess hours in the dentist chair. I just had a root canal and am in the process of getting it crowned. Another crown I had years ago on a root canaled tooth has failed and I just went for a consultation for an implant – $3000!!! Oh my.

    My friends and family both comment poorly on people who have denture white teeth! I don’t know how that got popular. I don’t know why anyone would bleach their teeth to the point of looking like really fake, really bad dentures.

  518. I’ve had a lot of dental work! I had 12 teeth pulled throughout my youth because I had too many teeth and it caused crowding. I wore braces for 3 years. I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed. I also have a genetic condition where my teeth degrade faster than they should…so this means I have fillings done at least once a year!

  537. Oh geez, what haven’t I had done to my teeth? I’ve had extractions, gum surgery, two rounds of braces, two upper/lower jaw surgeries, and routine dental work like fillings, a couple of crowns and a root canal. I can proudly say that I’ve had no veneers though.

  552. I spent MANY months in the dental chair as a teenager – huge issues – root canals, caps, etc. As an adult I’ve been a lot luckier, although 2 years ago I had to have a tooth pulled due to a fractured root that abscessed – can’t afford to have an implant replacement.

  558. OMG I have spent tons of time and money in the dentist chair! I had a really BAD dentist when young who scared the bJesus out of me for about 30 years of my life. I need a TON of work so I really give my kids the dental health sermons. I wish most of all for NOT riches and material things but great teeth. If I won the lottery, getting my teeth in shape would be second in line ONLY to making sure all kids and grandkids get the education they want and deserve. Arm n Hammer was the brand my aunt told us about many years ago! Love it!

  584. My teeth are horrible horrible horrible. When I was growing up, we didn’t live in the city limits, so there was no fluoride in the water. I always had a lot of cavities, and it got worse when I had braces because the orthodontist would yell at me for knocking things off when I brushed my teeth. Now that I’m grown, all those fillings need to be replaced, or in some cases, have been replaced so many times that I need crowns on them.

  658. Not so much as an adult, but as a kid I was in the dentist waaaay too much. I had braces from like 6th grade to about 10th. And that wasn’t it. I had a Pallet expander on the top and bottom. The bottom one was removeable and fit like a retainer but the top one. My goodness I don’t wish that on ANYONE! They attached it to two molars on either side. In the middle was a special keyhole and every day I had to turn it one full turn. It literally cranked the roof of my mouth appart. My parents used to have to tackle me to turn it and the whole time I would be bawling my eyes out. I’ve never broken any bones so I don’t know how the pain compares but it literally was breaking mu jaw apart a little at a time making it wider. I talked funny with it in my mouth, I couldn’t swallow right since my tongue couldn’t reach the top of my mouth. Oh and I had to wear head gear 12 hours a day. I was a walking orthodontic mess. Luckily I just have had a few cavities since I grew up and got all that metal out of my mouth. Thankfully I haven’t needed anything major!
