Tips to make your flight more comfortable

tips on making your flight more comfortable

When you travel these days, you need to remain flexible and ready for changes at the last minute. It seems like planes are always being delayed or cancelled, and so are connecting flights and continuing transportation. It can be frustrating, but hopefully you’ll reduce some of the stress if you follow these tips to make your flight more comfortable.

Tips to make your flight more comfortable

Book Your Transportation in Advance

If you are catching a ride from the airport, a taxi from Bratislava to Vienna airport for example, it is always a good idea to book it ahead of time. Not only will this ensure that you have someone waiting for you at the other end of your journey; it will also help reduce any stress as you won’t have to worry about finding a taxi right away. It’s especially important to make these arrangements if you are traveling during peak hours or holiday times, when airports can often be overrun with travelers and catching a cab can be difficult.

Dress appropriately

A key to fly comfortably depends on layers. No one can really tell how hot or cold it will be on the plane, so make sure you wear clothes that you can take on and off easily. Breathable clothes like sweatshirts and cotton t-shirts will enable you to feel more relaxed and comfortable. Avoid fleece, tight-fitting garments, and scratchy tags. There’s nothing more annoying than feeling irritated while stuck in a little space!

Wear the Right Shoes

Avoid high heels when flying if you can. You might be rushing around the airport to meet a connecting flight, or otherwise rushing around and not only do you need to be quick on your feet, you also don’t want to chance twisting an ankle (after all, who wants to have to go see a podiatrist or other doctor as soon as they land!). Once you board the plane, take those shoes off. Your feet will most likely get swollen on flights, so it is a good idea to bring a couple of pairs of socks in your carry on bag. You might want to put these on to let your feet relax without shoes.

Use Earplugs

A decent pair of earplugs can help you tune out crying babies and talkative passengers. You can rest up while enjoying a little peace and quiet.

Bring Snacks

A small, healthy snack is always good to bring on a flight. Equip yourself with baby carrots, trail mix, fruit, or something that can be easily kept in a plastic bag. Make sure you don’t bring anything oily or that could get on your clothes and stain or spill. Also, keep any strong smelly foods at home… your neighbors will thank you.

Check-in early

By checking in online ahead of schedule and before you reach the air terminal, you’ll save some time in line and in some cases you will have the option of picking your seat early.  As compared to any other options, I prefer to travel to the airport with my own car to save time as now we have wide options for cheap airport parking near the airport and offers an abundance of helpful parking information, guides, and great low-cost deals at LAX, Sea-Tac Airport, charlotte Airport Parking, SFO, O’Hare International Airport, JFK, and many more!

Pick the Right Seat

This is especially important if you have a long flight. Things to keep in mind are that the back of the plane can have quite a bit of engine noise, and you might also have to endure the lovely “scent” of the restrooms. If you can, pick a seat towards the front of the plane. If you are a tall person, try to get an aisle seat so you can stretch your legs every so often.

Use the Pillow and Blanket

They are there for the taking (or using, I guess) – so take advantage of them and be comfortable! You might also want to bring your own neck pillow, as sometimes it can be hard to get comfortable in the seats on airplanes. Don’t forget, you can also fold up (or ball up) some of the clothes you brought to layer with and use them for a pillow.

Conclusion

Long flights make you feel like it is time spent in limbo. When you have to travel a long flight, you should sit back, unwind and make the best of it. Or use this uninterrupted time to catch up on some work. Keep in mind that it will be over soon.
