When I showed my girls our Ubooly in her box they were excited. They knew it was something for me to review but they weren’t sure what she could do. Over the past few weeks we have played with our Ubooly and we have learned that she is an app that teaches you many different subjects through jokes, games, stories, and fun interactive play.
Ubooly is an educational toy for your iPhone or iPod (Supports: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch 4G, and iPod touch 5) through the App Store. Don’t worry Android users an app for you to download Ubooly is coming soon! Once you download the free app you can put your device in the super cute plush doll (must purchase separately) or play without it. Of course my stuffed animal crazy girls usually choose the adorable stuffed toy.
Now on to customizing your Ubooly. Yes I said customize! While setting up additional playmates for your Ubooly you can also select subjects that your child might be interested in.
After that parents can purchase credits at the Ubooly Lab to customize their Ubooly with various lessons such as Space, Seasons, Alphabet, and Spelling. There is so much more to choose from and the developers are adding new lessons all the time! I entered my children’s names, ages, and answered some questions about their likes and we were on our way. Ubooly knows this information and will also like the same: colors, interests, food, hobbies to make each of the lessons more personal. With over 20 interactive lessons designed by teachers you will find something for every child’s interest. Each of the lesson packs are created on a five day schedule and send parents progress reports so you know just what they are doing. Ubooly will help with personal growth and create healthy habits through the Fitness and Helper packs. The Interest Packs are full of fun facts of trivia to get your child excited about specific topics.
As your child plays with the app they will earn coins to “buy” various items for their Ubooly’s box. That is it’s house when not inside the plush toy. So far my oldest has purchased a window for her Ubooly to see out of. You can decorate the little box with things like surfboards, posters, dressers, toys, and even a basketball hoop. My daughter also decided that her Ubooly needed to have a pair of sparkly pink glasses so she bought those as well. In addition to the various accessories that you can purchase to change up the look of your Ubooly you can also buy different hair styles and even it’s facial features. My little saver is going to hoard her coins in case she sees something she wants another day.
The Spanish lesson has been the most interesting to see my youngest play with so far. Ubooly has taught her greetings and songs. Ruby used to simply ask me “Mama, hug?” but not anymore now she says “Madre, abrazo?” Maybe I should be the one playing with Ubooly.
That was just a short example of one of the fun adventures that my girls got to go on with their Ubooly. Heck, even Pica our Chihuahua wanted in on the imaginary play!
Ubooly is all sorts of fun! We have a very long and very boring car ride coming up and she will be invaluable to me. I have the Ubooly app installed on my phone and also on my older 2 girls iPod Touch devices. When a child plays with the Ubooly it will drain your battery so I prefer to have them use their iPods but will occasionally allow them to use my phone. It is a small price to pay for the amount of learning that your kids will get from Ubooly though.
Our weather has been sort of unpredictable lately and Ubooly has been a lifesaver! Even on dreary days they are learning, and are up and active! This is not an educational toy that you just sit in front of, you go on adventures and jump around. You brush your teeth (for the amount of time you are supposed to!!!) and learn to floss correctly. You learn songs in different languages and (with a parent) perform fun experiments. I have never seen anything like Ubooly!
Of course Ubooly is on Facebook and Twitter. They posted a hilarious video of 2 Uboolys communicating with each other. Priceless! Maybe for my oldest daughter’s birthday we will get her a the plush Ubooly doll so that she won’t have to share and then we can have some real fun around here! That is what Ubooly is you know, F.U.N! Download the Ubooly App for yourself and find out!
