Being eco-friendly is important to me, and I love reusable shopping bags such as Urban Market Bags. I have used plenty of other reusable bags in the past, but not all of them were attractive, unfortunately. Of course that is not really the purpose of bags, but it is still fun to tote around pretty, colorful bags.

The plastic bag ban is a wonderful thing. Shortly before we moved to Oregon from California, California started charging for bags at the store. At first it was a nuisance, even though I knew it was for a good cause, but once I got used to bringing my own reusable bags to stores, it just became habit.

The story of Urban Market Bags is interesting:

After years of grocery shopping, driving kids to extracurricular activities, managing household errands, and all other routine happenings, Cindy Goldberg and Kerri Stenson were well aware of how many bags are needed to get through each day. Being environmentally conscious, and early adopters of reusable bags, but as time went on, those reusable bags became stained, soiled, flimsy, took up too much storage space and were not always conveniently available.

One night, their ah-ha! moment happened over a glass of wine in Hawaii, the first state to eliminate plastic bags. Sitting by the ocean and appreciating Hawaii’s efforts to keep it pristine, Cindy and Kerri instantly knew that there is a better way to be environmentally responsible (and look cute while doing it!). So they dug up the design for the original Olive Smart bags (created with mutual friend Stephanie Ashworth), made a few tweaks, and were on their way.

Urban Market Bags was born —the only true system that eliminates the hassle of dealing with stains, bulkiness and soiling, and adds efficiency, style and practicality to your life. One drawstring pack, many market bags that are completely washable. It just makes sense.

I received some Urban Market Bags of my own, and I am absolutely smitten!  As I mentioned above, they are really attractive, but in addition to that, they are sturdy!  I really love to take these with me when I go out shopping, and I definitely get compliments!

  1. These would be great for using at the supermarket or when I go to the local farmer’s market! I always prefer to bring a bag from home rather than use plastic.

  2. I would use them for my cold produce and meat. I also would use the for freezer foods. I could just set these bag inside by reusable cooler bags, get home and then toss them in the wash.

  3. I guess since California passed that stupid law that we must pay for our bags now or bring our own, I am going to have to get some. With having reusable bags, it means that I will be using more electricity. Why? Well, in order to keep those bags clean and free of germs, they will have to be washed after each shopping trip that they have been used.

  4. I would give them to my daughter for when she goes grocery shopping. For a vegan, she’s not very green-minded.

  5. I’d use them to carry my work papers. I’d also use them when grocery shopping or packing extras for camping. Thanks.

  6. I would use them for grocery shopping. Clothing stores in my area aren’t accepting of reusable bags but I still take them with me to the mall just in case.

  7. Besides grocery shopping, I would use these bags for day trips to my mom’s or sister’s. I always end up carrying everyone’s belongings. It would be nice to have a bag for each kid, my husband and myself.

  8. Our state recently passed a “no plastic bags” law, so the more reuseable bags I have the better – I never know how much I’ll be picking up at the grocery store!

  9. I have been commenting daily. I didn’t realize that you wanted a comment here to tell you which post.

  11. I live in California so I would use them for the grocery store and the farmers market.
And for toting dinner and groceries across town for my Dad every day.

  12. I could use these for groceries, hiding Christmas presents from my daughter and pack one with goodies as a gift for someone.

  13. I’m already a big user of reusable bags. But like you, not all of my bags look so nice. Had to repair quite a few. I’d use these all the time for grocery shopping.

  14. These bags would be a great help when I’m grocery shopping, and they’re nice enough to use at department stores, too. I’d keep one tucked in my shoulder bag so I’d always have one handy. Very nice!

  15. I went grocery shopping yesterday and there was a huge sign. It stated “California is a No Bag” state. Needless to say, I had no bags with me. It now cost .10 for paper and .15 for plastic. I would use these for grocery shopping and retail. Perfect timing for this giveaway!
