I don’t know about you, but on the weekends it seems like every car on our street is getting washed. Our Silverado is a beast to wash and I feel like it takes SO long and we waste so much water in the process. I was pleased to learn that there are a few WaterSavers certified, environmentally friendly car wash locations near us.

WaterSavers professional car washes only use 40 gallons or less of fresh water per car wash. Washing at home can use 60 gallons in just five minutes! After your car is washed, the process doesn’t stop there. These car wash locations essentially recycle the water; cleaning and reusing it for the another dirty car or the used water is treated before it “returns” to the environment. I was impressed! I certainly cannot say the same for the water that runs off our driveway into the storm drains!

A study by the City of Federal Way, Wash., found that residential car washing led to numerous pollutants being released each year into their storm sewer system, including 190 gallons of gasoline, diesel and motor oil; 400 pounds of phosphorus and nitrogen; and 60 pounds of ammonia.

We headed down to a WaterSavers certified car wash. At Brown Bear there are three car wash packages to choose from. Since we had been camping we opted for the “Beary Best” car wash!

Going through the car wash with kids is always an adventure…

Or in this case a misadventure. Bugsy cried and Luv didn’t care much for the sound of the dryers.

But we were on the road in no time. Car washes are much faster than washing it at home, thankfully. The Mister said we should do this more often. I have to agree!
