Smartmove helps with your move!

In the past, I always dreaded moving (as most of us do). When we recently bought our retirement/vacation home, it was a little bit easier, as we weren’t moving all of the contents of our current house. Luckily we are moving in bits and pieces and we just take some stuff down each time we go down for a weekend.

Even though the actual moving part has been pretty easy, one thing that was more difficult was setting up the cable, the phone, internet, etc. Had I only used Smartmove, my job would have been much simpler. They help you with scheduling connecting and disconnecting these services, and they also have so many other helpful ideas and products for those who are moving.

Since Summer is almost here (one of the most popular times for buying and selling homes, and thus moving), I am hoping that this information will help the move go seamlessly.

Smartmove has some great ideas on planning your furniture arrangement, warming up a new house (including before and after photos), resources for donating your unwanted items (while you’re moving is a perfect time to clear out the clutter!), and more. I know for us personally, we have filled quite a few lawn bags with belongings that we haven’t used in years, and don’t want to transport to the new house. However, other folks might enjoy our old possessions, so it’s a win-win for everyone!

  2. I think the hardest part about moving is the packing up of things; I’ve always ended up just pouring things into boxes, rushing to finish before the movers come. My dream is to just pack up some make up, my curling iron and grab the dog and go.

  22. I just dislike having to carefully pack and maneuver heavy box loads to get them ready for shipment in order to cut part of the moving costs.

  33. the packing! Thinking something is not used daily, so safe to pack early, THEN before the move, ripping through boxes trying to find that stupid whatzit that you should have known not to pack up yet… lol

  55. I do not really have a problem with moving. I have enough energy to clean, as well as pack belongings away. It is fun when I get to move, because I often stay in one place for a long time.

    When we sell our house this time, I am hiring movers to do all the packing. I do not mind unpacking, but packing is the worst.

  75. It’s been awhile, but I hate lifting heavy boxes full of stuff I really don’t need or use, wondering why I have so much that gets used so little, and wishing I’d kept my money, rather than spending it all on things I could have done without.

  83. I hate having to pay rent on two places for long enough to have time to pack and move every last thing! I always give myself 2 weeks. I don’t know how some people manage to move over a weekend!

  86. I just moved a few years ago. It was a total train wreck. My refrigerator would not fit threw the door so by the time I got a new refrigerator all of my food went bad. Then no one wanted to help me move so I had to do it by myself – it took forever. I still have stuff in boxes.

  131. i have hundreds of books, it has become a burden to move them all when we decide to move, they break through boxes, so to distribute the weight around, … its awefull,

  172. We have moved every year for the past 8 years for my husband’s job and I hate moving day. Loading up the trucks and unloading. Finding a place for everything and living out of boxes for a few weeks. It doesn’t help that it’s Texas and we seem to move around July and August each year and twice I was in my 3rd trimester 😀

  192. I really dislike having to pack fragile items, especially dishes and glassware – I worry constantly that I didn’t do a good enough job and that everything’s going to end up smashed or cracked by the end of the move!

  219. I do not like packing. You accumulate a lot of stuff in your lifetime so it’s a lot to pack up. You also have to decide if there’s stuff that you want to keep or throw out. I usually end up mad about something that I threw out, wishing I still had it. thank you!

  239. I dislike finding the stashes of hoarded items that the whole family likes hiding away. 🙂 Then it’s either pack it to drag along or find a way to get rid of it, all taking extra time.

  247. I hate the actual transportation of the items. I have a low back problem that prevents me from doing vigorous lifting (I can still move everything else, just no helping out with couches, chairs, beds, etc.). Contrary to everyone else here, though, I LOVE the packing process. It’s like playing real-life Tetris!

  275. Unpacking! At first you put it where you think is belongs. Then you move it…sometimes more than once or twice. In the end, you can’t find it. but you remember where it used to be…in the old place.
