4 Spring Maintenance Tasks To Do Around Your Home & Garden

spring

Spring is a time for fresh beginnings and new life, which makes it the perfect excuse to carry out a few essential home maintenance tasks. Here are four to put you on the right path – they’ll help you get your home ready for spring and make it feel new again!

The First Lawn Mowing Of The Year

Winter gave you a few months rest from the gardening tasks, but spring signals the start of it all again. One of your first maintenance tasks will be to head out and take care of your lawn. It probably hasn’t grown too much over a cold winter, but it still needs a little trim.

You’ll probably need to start by raking all the loose and dead leaves from the lawn before cutting it. Remember only to do this when it’s dry – if you mow your lawn when it’s wet, then you’re asking for trouble.

Clean Your Roof & Gutters

Your roof and gutters took a battering during the winter months, so you need to see if they’re okay. Check your gutters for signs of damage from below, and then book a professional roof/gutter cleaning service.

Could you do this yourself? Yes, but it would require using a pressure washer on a ladder. If your roof is in fairly good condition, then maybe you can clean your gutters on your own. You’ll need a telescoping cleaning tool to do this, and you’ll soon realize that it was better to get the pros in. Either way, this helps you get rid of all the loose leaves and debris from your gutters.

Patch up leaks

The winter cold can damage your roof and pipes, increasing the risk of a leak. Look out for mold or damp patches around your home to make sure that you haven’t got rainwater leaking in or a burst pipe.

A rainwater leak will be more noticeable after it has been raining, while a plumbing leak may cause constant dripping. Both can cause serious water damage if not fixed (a plumbing leak could also lead to a high water bill). Make sure to invest in roof repairs or pipe repairs if you notice a leak.

Service Your Cooling System

Warm weather is surely around the corner, which means your cooling system will be back in action soon. If you have an HVAC system, make sure you get an HVAC maintenance company to look at it and carry out any necessary repairs/upgrades.

The same goes for any swamp cooler users out there; service it professionally and pay for any swamp cooler repairs if necessary. This maintenance task guarantees that you’ve got a reliable cooling system to help throughout the warmer months. There’s nothing worse than experiencing a temperature spike and realizing your AC or swamp cooler doesn’t work, leaving you to melt like an icicle.

Get Rid Of Your Winter Clutter

Your final spring maintenance task is a classic: declutter your home to get rid of all the junk you accumulated over winter. Be honest, how many of you still have boxes and stuff left over from Christmas? It happens all the time because you enjoy the excitement of the festive period before immediately coming back to your normal busy routine.

Spend a weekend decluttering your home and getting rid of things you no longer need. Think about all the sweatshirts and winter clothes you didn’t wear once throughout the whole season. Why keep them? Donate or sell them online, and chuck out all the other junk you’ve found during the winter months.

Use these tips as a starting point to get back into the swing of things and look after your home. You’ll start thinking of many other maintenance tasks as you start doing these, as well!
