Every once in awhile, something comes along that I really didn’t think I would care for, but am pleasantly surprised.  This  happened recently when I was send Almond Fresh and Ryza, both from Earth’s Own, to review.  I am used to drinking regular ol’ milk, even though I am aware of the health benefits of  rice milk.

Almond Fresh™ is made with nutrient-rich real California almonds, Almond Fresh offers a unique “real nutty taste” that is exclusive to the beverage.

Ryza™ is the only rice beverage to bear the Whole Grains Council seal and Ryza is also the only rice milk to contain 16 grams of whole grains per one cup serving. Ryza contains no added oils.

My son is no stranger to rice and soy milks, so he was thrilled when these arrived at our house.  I was up for the challenge of something new, so we opened them both and began tasting.

The Ryza Brown Rice beverage was definitely different than anything I have had before, but it is something that I can see pouring over my breakfast cereal, and know that I am eating healthy.   It is refreshing to see that it is a lactose-free and gluten-free beverage, as I have been hearing about so many people lately (and their kids) who need to start eating gluten-free.  I was happy to learn that every cup of Ryza contains one full serving of whole grains.  Oh my body is going to love me!

A wholesome, nutritious choice for your healthy lifestyle, ryza is made with the natural whole grains of brown rice – not milled or polished – to retain all the natural oils, vitamins and minerals of the entire grain. With no added sugar or oils, cholesterol free ryza includes naturally occurring high quality protein with only half the fat of other rice beverages.

Ryza contains 1 full serving of whole grains (16g) in every cup. Getting enough whole grain in your diet is a whole lot easier – and tastier – when you drink ryza.

I was pretty excited to see that Ryza Brown Rice beverage can also be used in recipes!  Pancakes anyone?

Earth’s Own Almond Fresh was my favorite out of the two. I am a big fan of almonds, and this was very tasty.  The beverage had a light almond flavor – not overpowering at all.  Almonds are chock-full of healthy stuff (how did I not know this?).  From the Almond Fresh website, the benefits include:

Low Fat & Cholesterol Free:
Almonds can lower cholesterol as part of a diet low in saturated fat.

Excellent Source of Calcium and Vitamin D:
Almonds play an essential role in bone health.

Source of Vitamin E:
Almonds are one of the leading food sources of vitamin E, which supports immunity and healthy skin.

Antioxidants
The vitamin E found in almonds (alpha-tocophenol) is the most easily absorbed antioxidant known. It protects cells from oxidation by removing free radicals, which contribute to aging.

Almond Fresh can be used in several recipes, including this smoothie recipe that I found on the carton:

There are plenty of other recipes on both the Ryza and the Almond Fresh websites, if you need some inspiration!
