What a wonderful and challenging time it can be raising a tween daughter.  How do I know?  I am raising one right now.  My daughter is 10 going on 11 in a few short months.   Her body is changing and more challenges in life that our girls must deal with.  I want to continue developing a good relationship with her so that she can come to me in the good times and bad.  I didn’t have a relationship like that with my mom.  There were so many things that I was embarrassed about or questions I had.  Instead, I went to my friends or the youth group leaders at our church.  Not your best sources for information.

I am happy to be able to have a resource to guide me through some of the things my daughter will go through.   Bonding Over Beauty, A Mother-Daughter Beauty Guide To Foster Self-Esteem, Confidence, And Trust does exactly that!

Developing good communication with our daughters is so important but how do we do that?  Erika Katz is the author and mother of a tween so she knows the importance.  Building open communication can be as simple (and fun) as going to get your hair done together or having a spa party for just you and her.  It can be the stepping stone to open those doors to talk about things that might not come up otherwise.

The book shares insight on how to help your daughter shave her legs and all the options there are on the market, to picking out the right hair products.  It even discuses personal hygiene issues we need to explain to our daughters.  I learned so much from this handy little book and I now will be reading it again to pinpoint the bonding activities I want to do right now.

Here is a brief synopsis about the book directly from BondingOverBeauty.com

In this down-to-earth guide for moms of tweens, Erika Katz offers practical advice for building self-esteem, confidence, and trust.

Moms of tween girls know what’s coming: puberty. As a young girl heads toward the teen years and exerts her independence, mom suddenly seems out of touch. She just doesn’t understand.

That’s the shift Erika Katz—former actress and model and now mother of a tween girl—hopes to prevent by teaching moms how to open up a dialogue during the often awkward preteen and early teen years. Her approach: give moms all the information they need to guide their daughters through the trials of womanhood while providing fun bonding activities they can do with their daughters.

The tween years present a golden opportunity for moms to gain their daughters’ confidence. A mother’s approach to sticky issues such as shaving legs, using tampons, or wearing makeup to school will help determine the nature of the relationship she has with her daughter. Erika’s practical, comprehensive tips on hair, skin, makeup, hair removal, nails, healthy eating, and puberty, as well as the great bonding activities presented in each chapter, will give moms the knowledge and tools they need to create bonds that will last a lifetime.

  1. Every mom of a daughter needs this book! While on the surface, this seems like a beauty book, but it is so much more than that. It is really a book about creating a great relationship with your daughter. It actually changed how I parent my daughter. Each chapter has so much vital information. But, it is written so beautifully, I literally read it in 3 days.

    I highly recommend this book!
