*I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

Well, it is that time of year again – back-to-school! Have your kids started school yet? My daughter’s school starts later than most and next Wednesday is the big day for her. We have been busy shopping for new clothes and stocking up on school supplies and I think she is just about ready!

To make things a litter easier for the first day of school, here are a few tips that have helped us over the years:

  • The week before school starts, start planning out fits for the following week. One thing I did when my daughter was in the first few years of grade school was to put each day’s clothes (minus the shoes) in a zip-lock gallon bag. I then marked the day of the week that it was for. I put them in a cubby and she was able to just grab the right bag and get herself dressed. It worked like a charm and prevented the frantic frenzy of “I can’t find my socks!” in the mornings.
  • Another thing that really helps is to make lunches the night before, or get money for hot lunches ready ahead of time. Over the weekend, make sure you have exact change for their hot meals for the next week.
  • I probably don’t have to tell you (since you are all pretty shopping savvy!) to keep your eye out for sales and deals on school supplies long before school starts. Buy in bulk if you see a really good price, as chances are your kid(s) will be able to use many of the same products for the next few years. I have noticed some really good sales still going on, and I recently purchased 1-subject notebooks for .17 each! I bought enough to last us through the next few school years!

For more back-to-school tips and all kinds of other information about school starting, make sure you visit the BGCA website.  I was surprised how much I learned, actually, and wish I had known about some of their ideas years ago.  They have a whole section on ideas on how to get kids to do their homework.  One idea is to do “adult” homework when they are doing their school work.  You could sit with them and pay bills, open mail, or any other number of things!

I recently posted about the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the JC Penny Cares program, where during the month of July you could choose to round up your purchases. JC Penney then donated those funds to and gave to the BGCA – where they helped children get the school supplies they need.

Today I would like to tell you about another program that helps kids get school supplies. Disney has launched an online supply drive which is also fun (and free) for you!  By simply playing pop-quick type game, you will be helping to donate school supplies to local Boys and Girls Clubs of America.  Each five correct answers will result in a donation of school supplies!  It doesn’t get much easier than this folks, can I count on you to help?

Make sure you connect with Boys and Girls Clubs of America on Facebook and @BGCA_Clubs onTwitter!

  2. That is such a great thing to buy clothes and other items at JC Penny’s and round up your items total and give the money to Boys and Girls Clubs of America to help other children in the Community. I always get extra school supplies and put them in a barrel at the end of the aisle to help with our school drive!

  13. What a wonderful campaign! I have neighbors that are both teachers and I try to give them supplies every year. I tried to access the link you had here but it took me to a page that said Access Denied. I would have loved to have helped!

  14. I like playing computer games, I’ll enjoy it so much more knowing that playing is making a difference. I like it when corporations support children and put their money behind it. Thanks for the info, I’ll spread it around, I have a lot of friends who like to play games.

  15. doing things the night before is the BEST idea. you always run into a snag in the morning that sets you back… or you’re too groggy and forget things in the lunches!
