S’mores are an American tradition. When people think of S’mores, they think of Summer, camping, friends, family, and sitting around the campfire roasting marshmallows. I’m sure everyone has their own S’mores stories and maybe even their own twist on the traditional recipe. I also have my own special S’more recipe – Caramel Oreo S’more Pies.
It is fun to mix up recipes a bit. I do it quite often, and there are so many things that can be done with S’mores. In fact, a couple of years ago I created a Rice Krispie S’mores recipe and they tasted like the real thing – all in neat little chewy squares! I adore caramel, and since chocolate and caramel get along fabulously, why not combine the two in a Caramel Oreo S’more Pie?
Pretty much all of my favorite things are incorporated into this recipe – milk chocolate candy bars, caramel, gooey toasted marshmallows, and wait for it…
an Oreo cookie! Yes. A caramel chocolate S’more. With an Oreo. In a Graham Cracker shell. Oh yes I did.
I love using the pre-made tart shells, it really makes this such an easy S’more recipe, and with the orange filled cookie in the middle it is a fun dessert recipe for Autumn and a fun Thanksgiving dessert too!
Ingredients:
6 Keebler pre-made mini graham pie/tart shells
6 Oreo cookies (you can use any flavor, color or any variety you wish)
12 individually wrapped caramels
Milk Chocolate Candy Bars {I prefer Hershey’s}
3 large marshmallows ( evenly cut in half , so you have two rounds)
Bag of mini marshmallows
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bake shells for 5 minutes, then cool.
Put chocolate pieces on bottom of tart {enough to cover entire bottom}
Add 2 caramels {each cut in half} on top of the chocolate
Place Oreo cookie on top of caramels, directly in the center of mini pie pan
Next put a row of mini marshmallows upright in a circle, on the edge of pie tin. These will be placed between edge of pie tin and edge of Oreo cookie, facing slightly inward.
Next you will do another circular row of mini marshmallows done in the same fashion. These will be a little trickier, but don’t worry about it too much. You can reset any fallen marshmallows right before you put in oven.
Next put one of the large marshmallow halves in the center of the other marshmallows.
The next step is toasting the marshmallows. I used a toaster oven for this part. I put it on the broil setting and I stool next to the toaster oven the whole time and watched, as the marshmallows can burn quickly! For further instructions and information on the right way to toast marshmallows, it is explained more explicitly in our Chocolate Peanut Butter S’mores Bar Recipe post. Please. make sure you check out the instructions so you don’t burn your marshmallows or start a fire. Most importantly though…do not leave marshmallows alone in toaster oven or oven. Watch them at all times.
When the marshmallows are lightly toasted/light brown on top, remove from toaster oven/oven and let cool slightly.
Is your curiosity piqued yet? Are you dying to know what the inside looks like? Well, I have one other little surprise for you. Since it is that time of year, I put a Halloween Oreo {you know – those with the orange filling?} inside of the little S’more cup, right under the marshmallows. Oh my goodness, these little S’mores pies are so good. I was happy to discover that they aren’t too sweet – they are the perfect balance. And all of the different textures make them absolutely dreamy!
There are so many different Oreo cookies that are on the store shelves throughout the year, so keep checking back, for the ones you wish to use.
