Costco chili is back but did you know that some people are saying it’s not chili at all? The big box grocery has sparked major debate on social media about one particular ingredient.

Last week on TikTok, @costcohotfinds shared a video of a 4-pound tub of a product. It contains beef, onions, cheese, spices, kidney beans, and pinto beans.

The comments lit up with angry TiKTokers who lambasted the popular item for it’s bean content.

“There’s no beans in chilli……I don’t know what that is but it’s not chilli…… still looks pretty good though,” one user wrote.

Everything went to hell on TikTok last week…

Cotsco Chili Controversy

Costco’s chili is packed with beans, some saying way too many!

Another agreed, yelling, “Real chili DOESNT HAVE BEANS IN IT.”

“Chili master here folks, it’s official, this isn’t chili,” someone else declared. “Costco needs to remove this so call Chili from it’s store now.”

“That’s not chili,” one person announced. “That’s bean soup.”

Others, however, were Team Beans.

“Is that an American thing? 100% we put beans in our chilli in Canada,” one TikToker shared.

“I have to have the beans,” a bean expert proclaimed.

Some people are in favor of beans, while others prefer their chili to be bean free.

Some restaurants serve chili with a sticky cinnamon bun!

The chili at Costco comes in a 4-pound tub.

The Great Bean Debate appears all boils down to where you’re from. In my house Chili always contained red kidney beans. Any restaurant where chili was served also contained kidney beans.

In some parts of Texas, chili is made without beans, but people outside that area have already tried chili with beans.

According to HuffPo, Cincinnati residents add cocoa powder to their chili and serve it over spaghetti in Ohio.

In New Mexico, they mix it with green chiles and pork. In Nebraska, they serve it with a cinnamon roll.

This isn’t the only food debate to make headlines recently.

In June, Heinz ended the debate on where to keep ketchup. By saying it should be kept in the fridge, they caused more anger.

Many fans flooded the comments, asking why the product is stored on shelves at the supermarket and in restaurants.

      1. The chili looks good, but you must add your own seasoning. Nothing from the store is adequately seasoned.

  1. Despite the excitement, there’s a heated debate on social media regarding one particular ingredient that some people argue disqualifies it as “true” chili.
