Link Up with D-Link to Stay More Connected to Your Baby – Review

D-Link HD Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Baby Camera

Disclosure review
I still find it odd when I come to the realization that my babies are no longer “babies.” Over the years, the days may go so but the time truly goes by all too quickly. The mister and I are still a bit back and forth on whether or not we’ll be adding to our family so, for now, we’ve chosen to pass many of the kids’ baby items onto friends and family. Despite the fact that my boys are getting older and, of course, sleeping much better through the night than they did when they were younger, one of the few baby gear products that I’ve kept around is our monitor.

We’ve had the monitor on my nightstand since our oldest’s birth and although it has been primarily used as their nightlight recently, I still find great comfort in knowing that I can easily keep an eye on them through even the darkest of nights. Of course, having had our current model for a good number of years now, it has certainly seen better days. Not wanting to spend the money on a new one since it is no longer a true necessity; I was thrilled when I was presented with the opportunity to test one out for all of you. With that being said, please allow me to introduce you to D-Link.

Now, having been in the midst of all things baby, toddler, and then some in addition to the ever changing children’s product market through my work here, I was surprised that I had not previously heard of the D-Link brand. Because of that, this particular project has been one of a learning process in which I am happy to say ended well.

D-Link helps you connect to more of everything with our innovative approach to computer networking. From relatively modest beginnings in Taiwan, the company has grown over the last 25 years into an exciting global brand offering the most up-to-date network solutions.

In addition to my own children growing up entirely too quickly, the years have also brought a new wave of technology that has worked its way into the lives of the masses. Computer ownership is no longer a rarity, everyone seems to be walking around with smartphones glued to their hands, we can easily video chat with folks from halfway across the globe, and many of our own children have mastered the art of technology use quicker than our own parents. It was only a matter of time before that very same technology reached the world of baby gear. Today, that time has come.

I was lucky enough to be able to try out the all new D-Link HD Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Baby Camera.

D-Link HD Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Baby Camera
Already different from my seemingly ancient monitor was the fact the D-Link has incorporated the Wi-Fi feature as well as the ability to adjust the camera remotely. Talk about a win-win!

With our boys sharing a bedroom, we often found it difficult to set up our previous monitor in a way that we could adequately look over both of them simultaneously. When they were younger, we opted to simply arrange the furniture accordingly but, these days, in the midst of pillow fights and flying stuffed animals, it’s nice that they can each have their own space. D-Link has allowed me to retain that same peace of mind during the nighttime hours especially, during those mid-afternoon naps, and as our boys grow.

Watch over your child anytime, anywhere with the DCS-855L Pan/Tilt Baby Camera. Pan/tilt functionality lets you move the camera remotely. Monitor an entire playroom with ease from your mobile device! With night vision, temperature monitoring, sound and motion detection, 2-way audio, notifications and more, the DCS-855L keeps you connected to your family.

After tearing into the box, I was a bit worried that the setup would be a bit on the more difficult end of things due to the Wi-Fi connection but I was wrong. To my surprise, I found that setting up the camera was an absolute breeze and, really, just a few quick steps.

D-Link Baby Camera Setup
There are so many amazing aspects of the D-Link HD Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Baby Camera and I could easily go on for days chatting about each and every one. Instead, I’ll spare you the lengthy read and highlight some of my personal favorites.

Being that it is its namesake, the pan and tilt aspect of the D-Link HD Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Baby Camera is utterly amazing. This is the first baby monitor that I’ve had that truly allows the parent to have full control over the cameras positioning as opposed to having it fixated in a single direction or angle.

D-Link HD Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Baby Camera
What makes the pan and tilt feature even greater is the fact that, like its name also describes, this particular camera operates on your home’s wireless connection (or even the camera’s own WiFi!). There’s no longer a need to physically adjust the camera by hand; instead, you can do so rather easily with nothing more than a smartphone in hand. I truly think that this is the best feature that the D-Link HD Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Baby Camera has to offer because, no matter where you are, you can easily check in on your child by quickly accessing the mydlink Baby App on your iOS or Android devices. Whether you’re away at work and your child is home with a sitter or you’re simply in another area in the house, you’re able to have full access to your child’s baby monitor at all times. There’s no more worrying about whether or not an additional parent monitor is charged enough to carry around the house nor do you need to worry about your child while you’re away on business. Whether you’re at home or on-the-go, the app and D-Link baby monitor lets you stay connected with your child and allows you to manage all of the camera’s various features.

D-Link Wi-Fi
The video quality is also something that certainly needs mentioning. Many monitors have issues with unclear visibility, static issues, or simply horrid quality. This monitor is anything but. The picture that you receive on the parent’s end is rather spectacular and I love how incredibly crisp and clean the imagery is. The sharp clarity of the image that is transferred from the D-Link HD Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Baby Camera to the mydlink app is unbeatable. Add that to the fact that you’re able to enjoy that very level of quality regardless of the time of day with the inclusion of night vision and, really, you’re golden!

D-Link Night Vision
Another one of my most favorite aspects of the D-Link HD Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Baby Camera is the wondrous ability for two-way audio. Back when we were a family of three, calmly hollering (is that a thing?) across the hall to comfort a whining toddler in the middle of the night wasn’t really much of an issue. However, when we became a family of four, we quickly realized that doing so would no longer work. Little brother’s middle of the night coos and cries required quiet calming. Unfortunately, walking into the room often meant that we’d end up waking our older son in the process so, until now, it was always a losing battle and often one in the wee hours of the morning. Thankfully, with D-Link, parents are now able to calm and comfort their children with the simple sound of one’s voice. Say “I love you,” sing a lullaby, hush your sweet little loves back to sleep, or even pop in to simply say “hello.”

As parents, we always want to savor the days when our babies are, well, babies. Even as the years pass and no matter how quickly they grow, it is our job to keep a watchful eye over them. My baby boys may have grown into wild and rambunctious kids but I am so thankful that, with the D-Link HD Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Baby Camera, I am able to still do just that.

D-Link HD Pan & Tilt Wi-Fi Baby Camera
While these days may consist of a bit more bad dream battling, fixing kicked off blankets, or simply keeping an eye on their play time while tending to household chores, this monitor has been a fabulous addition to our home and our life. We even unexpectedly found out that it doubles wonderfully as a way to check in on the pets while the whole family is out and about!
