Dinner is Ready – plan and freeze your meals!

Although I like to cook, I find myself tired and dreading cooking come late afternoon. There are other things I would rather be doing, quite honestly, and I even feel a little resentful sometimes. When I first heard about the 30 Meals in One Day Cookbook and software, I thought to myself, “What a clever idea!”.

The premise is simple – you spend a day or two doing lots of cooking, and you are all set for a whole month. I have often thought of maybe making extras of a dish, and freezing it, but to have dinner figured out for a whole month sounds heavenly to me.  Imagine looking into your freezer and seeing pans and containers neatly labeled  and ready to pop in the oven or microwave.

I received the Dinner is Ready – 30 Meals in One Day Cookbook for review.  Unfortunately I haven’t downloaded the software.  As many of you know, my father recently passed away and I am doing well to be functioning.  Since I have been so busy with arrangements and such, I haven’t had a day to dedicate to this to show you how it works, but I will do my best to describe it.     I cannot wait to try this though – it sounds perfect for me!

When you order one of the cookbooks from the 30 Meals in One Day website, you will receive the book, as well as the software, and the cost is only about $40.  Of course you can order the products separately, if you so desire.

I have tried a few of the recipes in the cookbook and they were all really good.  The first one I tried was the “Brown Sugar Pork Ribs” (page 72).  I made this recipe in the crock pot, and it called for basic ingredients that are in most kitchens.  That is something else I really love about these recipes.  They are no muss, no fuss – just simple, good, food.  For the Brown Sugar Pork Ribs, I first made the sauce in saucepan before pouring it over the pork in the crock pot.  Then I cooked for 2 hours and voila!  Yes – it was just that easy.  If I were going to store it, I would simply place it in a freezer bag, put a label on it and freeze.  The cookbook gives directions for reheating, which is info that you should also put on the labels.

My family really enjoyed this meal, and it is definitely something I will be making again.  Other recipes I would like to try from the cookbook are Baked Chicken in Gravy, Bacon Chicken, Corn Chowder and…oh who am I kidding, I want to try them all.

The first part of the book describes how making meals ahead and freezing them works.  It also includes tips and easy to follow directions.  You will learn what you can do the day before your big cooking day, to save time.  Later in the book, the recipe are broken down into cooking methods (oven baked, stove top, slow cooker, etc.).

I think this idea is just so clever.  I can’t help but think what great gifts these products would make for busy working moms, stay-at-home moms with little ones, or even for bridal shower gifts.  Even those who aren’t experienced in the kitchen can follow along with these yummy recipes.

Make sure you visit the Dinner is Ready blog too for other ideas and recipes!

  1. I have been trying to get into the whole freezing thing but I think I need a bigger freezer 🙂 I cook a ton on the weekends and then we eat leftovers all week long. Luckily for me, no one in the family minds leftovers!
