Lately Home Decor has been scarce in stores. I want to share this DIY Easter Bunny Home Decor so you can create your own.
Rather than hunt for the perfect piece in stores you can create some. This fabric bunny can be made with or without sewing.
You will need:
- fabric
- fabric glue or sewing machine or needle & thread
- poly-fil type stuffing
- Scissors
- clothespin or binder clip
- straight pins
- chopsticks or similar tool
Makes fabric bunny about 11 inches tall. Pattern can be made bigger at a local print store.
First thing is to choose fabric. Visit your local craft store or order online.
This can also be made from old Easter clothes. A great up-cycle project.
Choose a woven fabric, something not stretchy.
Any print that gives a pop of color or matches your decor will work great!
Next is to buy some stuffing. You want to choose a decent quality. Think somewhere between Build a Bear and Dollar store. You don’t want it to be too flimsy.
The other elements you need to make your Easter Bunny home decor from the list above you should have purchased and at the ready.
Press your fabric so there are no creases and crinkles. Be mindful of the settings that will work with your fabric choice. You can use any fabric you choose. I find it easiest to use a woven fabric like the texture of a dress shirt or a pillow case.
Cut out free bunny pattern available below as directed. Cut a square big enough for the pattern to fit on. Fold in half and cut on the fold.
This should create 2 full size bunny patterns. One for front and one for back.
Please cut front and back same time together as shown. After cutting you should take a minute to press out the crease.
Next you want to pin the right sides together.
After you pin, sew or glue all around the edges about 1/4 inch in. Take your time when sewing or gluing the angles and corners.
You want to make sure it is sealed all around except for a 2 inch opening. This is where you will put the stuffing!
Take your time on the corners. They can be tricky. Try to get sharp turns for the angles so that the bunny will turn out in a bunny shape. Because of this some new sewers find it easier to hand stitch this smaller project.
Once your glue has dried 100% turn the bunny onto the right side and stuff the bunny.
It is important to use tiny bits of stuffing and take your time. The seam can pop open if you are too rough. It is also possible that the stuffing will not fit in the small parts of the ear. Pinch by pinch fill the ears and take your time.
It will help to take your turning tool and chopsticks to turn the bunny on right side as well as stuff your bunny project. After that it is time to glue/sew the opening closed. This will be easier if you use a clothes pin or binder clip to pinch it.
Once you have the bunny filled it is time to close that opening. You can sew it closed by hand or glue it and use the binder clip to hold it while it dries. I chose to go back to my machine to sew it closed. We are assuming that it will not be seen once displayed.
Your DIY Easter Bunny Home Decor is ready to display in your home. Have fun making these in different patterns. It would be a fun idea to add scent to them or even try different fabrics if you are an experience sewer.
