Enjoy Lighting Flameless Candles Review

I love candles–I love the ambiance they create, I love the various scents they come in, and I love using them as a decorative element in my home. What I don’t love about candles is the paranoia I have whenever I burn them. I’m sure any of you that have children and/or pets know exactly what I’m talking about–that feeling that you can’t turn your back on them for a second because if you do, disaster will ensue. When our cat Aikku was a kitten, I left a lit candle for a minute while I got a glass of water–when I came back, Aikku was perched above the flame, several of her whiskers singed at the end. Boy did I feel like an awful human being when she was left with crispy whiskers for the next few weeks.

Crispy whiskers are bad, but what’s even worse is the fact that traditional candles cause over 15,000 house fires a year. In the past, flameless candles meant the plastic ones with big orange flame-shaped lightbulbs screwed onto the top–you know, the kind your mom would put in the window at Christmas time. Not really the type of thing you’d decorate your home with! Luckily, times have changed and Enjoy Lighting is around for all your flameless candle needs!

What makes Enjoy Lighting different? Perhaps the biggest improvement upon the old school flameless candle is that Enjoy Lighting candles are made with real wax. Since they’re not made of plastic, they look real to the eye and feel real to the touch. Rather than having a big honking lightbulb as the “flame,” Enjoy Lighting candles contain three computer chip controlled LED lights that create a realistic flickering effect. And, as you may have guessed, with light bulbs instead of flames, the candles don’t melt and last much longer than the real thing. Enjoy Lighting allows you to have all of the aesthetic benefits of real candles without any of the dangers that come with an open flame.

For this review, I was given the chance to try a 3×6″ Bayberry Scented Cranberry Mottled Pillar Candle (ARV $14.99). With the lights dimmed, no one would have guessed that it wasn’t a real candle. The light bulbs on Enjoy Lighting candles are nestled deep inside, not perched on top, so unless you look into the candle, there’s no way of knowing it’s not real. I’ll be honest–the scent was a little too strong for me, so were I buying one of these for myself, I’d probably go with a scent like Vanilla or Mandarin Spice, or maybe one of their unscented varieties. Because these candles do not need to be monitored as their traditional counterparts do, there are so many more options for using them–they would be great in holiday displays and centerpieces, near curtains, and even as a soothing night light in a child’s bedroom (okay, I can’t be the only person who finds flickering candles in the dark to be calming, right?!). One of my favorite things about Enjoy Lighting candles is that they have timers on them too–you can simply turn it on and off manually, or you can set them to run for 4, 6, or 8 hours.

I never really thought of flameless candles as an option for my household because I didn’t think there was anything out there that was a suitable substitute for the real thing. Enjoy Lighting completely changed my mind. I’d enthusiastically recommend these as a pet- and child-safe alternative to the traditional candle.
