Show Your Support for Animals with Purr-ty Fashion Pieces from the Fresh Step Feline Arts Council

Last year we were on our way home from dinner one cold, winter evening when the car in front of us almost hit a dog that had ran across the street. Thinking that I recognized the dog from a missing pet flyer, we stopped to see if we could help. Unfortunately, the dog took off running and we could not catch up to him or her. While walking back to the car, we noticed that a small cat had begun following us. Once we neared the vehicle, this tiny little kitten tried to climb its way into the engine of the vehicle to get warm. Knowing that the overnight forecast was to include snow and temperatures far below freezing, we couldn’t leave this sweet little animal outside to fend for himself. We took him in overnight and, the next morning I made the rounds with our local police department, veterinarian, and humane society in an attempt to locate his potential owners though all of this was to no avail. Though we were not really planning on welcoming a new pet into our family, unfortunately, none of the local shelters had any space for another stray cat. One did set up an appointment to take him in at a later date when space would be available but they had asked us if we could look after him for a few weeks until that date. Flash forward a few weeks and, of course, our entire family had grown close to this new little feline. After bringing him to his appointment and getting him all squared away with his health, he officially became ours and we’ve loved every second of it.

Randi's Rescue Kitty

Needless to say, he now being the second of our two cats, the feline community and the coinciding animal rescue organizations like the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) have a special place in my heart.

This year, to help benefit the ASPCA, Fresh Step has launched its Feline Arts Council bringing together and creating a panel of the top minds in feline fine arts to celebrate cats as a creative muse for all forms of pop and high culture.

“The Council boasts the brain-trust of Erica Domesek, founder of SIY lifestyle brand P.S. – I made this…; Eileen Hanavan, cat expert of the ASPCA; Katherine Dore, Sundance Channel’s executive producer of branded content; Smita Peri, brand manager of Fresh Step, and famed and adored Luna the Fashion Kitty.”

Following the 2nd annual Catdance Film Festival and its winning film, “Ricky,” – a sweet story narrated by a spunky and adorable 7-year-old named Willa about the bond between a dog and a newly adopted cat – they’ve launched a wonderful line of limited-edition, “purr-worthy” feline-inspired fashion items. With five different beautiful items available, each and every piece is a great purchase because 100% of the proceeds go directly toward benefitting the ASPCA.

Recently they sent me the Purr-ty Pendant Necklace from the collection and I couldn’t be happier.

Purr-ty Pendant Necklace

“Flaunt your purr-fect style with an elegant cat-inspired necklace. The Fresh Step Feline Arts Council bestowed its seal on this sleep sterling silver cat pendant necklace design by Sara Pocius. It can be ordered online and 100 percent of the $60 purchase price will benefit the ASPCA.”

This necklace, though simple, is still quite stunning. As much as I love it and what it represents, I plan on gifting it to a family member of mine. I have a cousin that, much like the members of the ASPCA, has dedicated her life to the well-being of animals (cats in particular). After starting up her own non-profit organization and caring for a plethora of cats over the years, sharing with her a beautiful piece from the Feline Arts Council collection was a no brainer. Not only are you able to don an elegant jewelry piece but this collection gives you the opportunity to spark-up conversation about a wonderful cause.
