Gear Up for Father’s Day by Celebrating Your “Despicable Dad” with Despicable Me 2

“One big unicorn, strong and free, thought he was happy as could be. Then three little kittens came around and turned his whole life upside down. They made him laugh, they made him cry. He never should have said goodbye. And now he knows he can never part from those three little kittens that changed his heart.”

That is the story that he reads to his daughters before bed. And that is how we left Gru and the girls three years ago. Now, they’re back.

In the new film, Despicable Me 2, all of our favorite characters are back for more fun, love, and mayhem. Everyone from Margo, Edith, and Agnes to big ol’ Gru and all of those unpredictably hilarious Minions will be jumping back into our lives sooner than you know. This time, the tables have turned. This former super-villain is recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help deal with a dangerous, new super criminal – that’s where chaos ensues. The one-time moon thief and destroyer of the world is, now, one of the good guys and on a mission to save the world.

He’s back in the game with cool cars! Gadgets! Weapons!

Gru (500x270)

The original movie, noted as the 10th biggest animated motion picture film in the US, is a HUGE favorite in our home. Ever since learning of the upcoming sequel, the kids have initiated a countdown until its release date. Simply watching (and re-watching) the trailer can get them started on endless giggling. I must admit that I, too, have been cracking up while writing this. The nutty little Minions are crazily adorable and I certainly love every minute of their silly antics.

In the end, however, the relationship and love between father and children will always prevail. Gru’s secret heart of gold and inner goodness, I expect, will win this battle between good and evil. Like any loving father, Gru puts his kids first. Whether it’s overcoming the fear of riding a roller coaster or saving the world, if it makes his kids happy then, by golly, he’s going to do it.

Now, Father’s Day is this weekend and we should be celebrating all of the “Despicable Dads” in our lives. All dads have their pre-children Gru-like moments but now, at the day’s end, will still happily read bedtime stories about unicorns and kittens before tucking their little one(s) in bed. This fella is one of those dads. The despicably wonderful, does everything for his kids, has strange Minion-y friends, and loves his family more than anything else in the world kind. And, apparently, he’s now taking fashion advice from Gru…

"Despicable Dads"

Donning his snazzy new Despicable Me 2 Gru t-shirt, I’d definitely say that he’s more than ready for the July premiere. All we need now are some overalls and goggles for the rest of us! But, alas, it is a Father’s Day celebration after all. Gru and daddies everywhere deserve to be recognized, acknowledged, and appreciated for all that they do. And hey, if they don’t mind an extra belated gift, a trip to the theater on July 3rd to see the brand new Despicable Me 2 would be, well, pretty awesome.

With July still being a few weeks out, make sure you keep up with Universal Pictures’ and Illumination Entertainment’s new Despicable Me 2 via social media on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ for news, contests, giveaways, and more! You can also check out, both, Pinterest and Instagram for tons of great photos, fan made art, and tasty treats. Do it all. And, while you’re at it, do a little dance this Father’s Day in honor of all the “Despicable Dads” out there. As strange and goofy as they may be, they are still “Dad.” That title in itself is pretty cool.

  1. Hi Jennifer-
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. Have you had your spine surgery yet? If so, I hope all went well. You asked the name of the test I had, and I can’t remember it. I’ll have to ask my husband. It was not related to the surgery, it was something I had done when they were trying to figure out what my problems in the spine were. I’d love to chat with you more. Maybe email?

    1. Thank you so much for answering! I have been worried about that test, and I am so relieved it had nothing to do with the surgery (but I’m sorry you had to go through it!). I am going to shoot you an email now. Thanks!
